Student Services Specialist (Specially Funded) Job ID: 320751 Location: Rio Salado Community College Full/Part Time: Regular/Temporary: Regular Hiring Salary Range $18.82 - $23.55/hourly, DOE Grade 109 Work Schedule The standard work schedule will be Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm during the Academic Year. 7:00am - 6:00pm during the Summer Months This position offers remote work allowing employees a combination of onsite and work from home options. The expected remote work schedule for this position will be based upon the needs of the department. Work Calendar 12 Months Funding Information This is a grant funded assignment with a projected end date of 06-30-2025 with renewal based on available funds and the needs of MCCCD. Job Summary Provides retention and student support as part of the newly developed Retention and Student Success team. The Retention Coach will provide assistance to current undecided and non-program seeking student caseload and provide support to the Academic Advising Division as needed. This position will help students maximize their academic learning, make informed academic decisions based on life and career goals, and guide students towards successful completion of their chosen academic path. The Retention Coach fosters student understanding of college policies and provides support services such as academic coaching and planning that ensures academic success, retention, and persistence. Student Affairs is looking for someone proficient in speaking and writing in Spanish. Essential Functions 50% - Provides academic coaching and planning, career coaching, student involvement and academic engagement while fostering student development through clarification of academic, professional, and personal goals using strategies that contribute to successful academic goal completion. Manages a student caseload and track progress from enrollment to completion. This includes effectively communicating from the beginning of the term for which the individual applied to graduation. Maintains accurate knowledge of coursework and degree programs while working with students to develop an individualized pathway to reach their academic goals. 30% - Compiles data on student services, activities, and academic progress. Develops and maintains accurate, organized, and detailed student records to produce reports that inform retention tactics and strategies paying special attention to program objectives that lead to persistence and graduation. 10% - Engages in creative solutions to student retention issues and takes initiatives with team members to implement solutions. 10% - Performs duties related to the Admissions, Records, and Registration office; performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, and one year full-time of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs. OR An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered. Desired Qualifications A. Two (2) years of experience in student services within a higher education or adult education environment strongly preferred or similar experience in customer service/public relations B. Proficiency in speaking and writing in Spanish C. Three (3) or more years' experience with strong and demonstrated success in customer service, relationship management or sales consultation via phone, email and in person in a high-volume setting D. Experience working with confidential records E. Experience with computers which could include Microsoft Office, Student Information Systems and/or Google Suite F. Experience in coaching, advising, and/or mentoring students or other learners G. Effective written communications skills (as evidenced by application materials) Special Working Conditions Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense. Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations. May require numerous evenings or weekends. May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen.
