Title: Weatherization Coordinator (Instructor Trainee)

Location: Hybrid - Lansing, MI Office - Travel Required

Purpose: The Weatherization Coordinator, reports to the Deputy Director of BCAEO and collaborates with the MiTEC Technical Manager to oversee weatherization support activities. This position offers potential advancement opportunities, leading to roles such as MiTEC Instructor or Weatherization Analyst, specializing in quality assurance technology monitoring.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Collect, analyze, and maintain data from Community Action Agencies overseeing the Weatherization Assistance Program.
  • Manage the electronic processing of technical monitoring schedules, review and update technical weatherization reports, and assist on-site with the setup and operation of weatherization diagnostic tools like infrared scans, blower door tests, and real-time video capture for monitoring purposes. This includes scanning, logging reports, recording results in the database, researching and summarizing information related to weatherization projects, and supporting team activities.
  • Assist in Training Center classes, including the preparation and setup of props for demonstrations.
  • Provide support for MiTEC, including working with weatherization students, ensuring class capacities are met, supporting instructors, and ensuring facilities are ready for classes.
  • Actively work towards technical certifications as outlined by supervisor.
  • Job Assignments may include one or more areas: Technical Quality Assurance Monitoring and Onsite Field Inspections, Education Resource Development and Event Hosting, Training Center Assistance with classes including preparation and setting up props for demonstrations, Student Services administrative support including working with weatherization students, ensuring all seats are filled in the offered classes, and providing support to the instructors, Weatherization Assistance Program team support.


  • Provide direct weatherization technical support to the weatherization staff as directed by the MiTEC Technical Manager.
  • Collect and compile weatherization-related documents, including contracts, monitoring reports, expenditures status reports, and fulfilling other informational requests as needed.
  • Conduct onsite diagnostic testing to support monitoring efforts while adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Verify and compare documents, forms, applications, or other materials to ensure compliance with project and grant requirements.
  • Provide training and technical assistance.
  • Review reports for accuracy, completeness, grammar, and format.
  • Organize, maintain, and/or purge files, documents, and logs.
  • Retrieve and organize documents for auditors within assigned deadlines.
  • Compile data and prepare reports as required.
  • Offer general support, including managing/operating video conferencing meetings/trainings, preparing multimedia documents for weatherization, sending reminders, generating monthly management reports, issuing materials, and responding to calls and emails as assigned.
  • Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications/Requirements:

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required with course work in Microsoft Word, Excel and Internet processing.

Experience: Two to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in weatherization, building trades, home improvement activities or have interest in building trades. Experience in maintaining data, word processing, editing, composing correspondence, planning, organizing, and project management work, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, and/or presentation software will be helpful.

  • Must understand the Michigan Field Guide, National Standards, Weatherization Assistance Programs rules, regulations, and policies, monitoring procedures, contract grant flow process, monitoring sequence, and internal workflow in processing federal grants. Proficient in verbal and written communication.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and can track and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to setup excel data files for analysis.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Frequently performs duties under stressful conditions, i.e., heavy workloads, tight deadlines, and confidential materials with some travel at certain times of the year depending on job assignments. Job may require moderate physical effort including lifting materials and equipment. It will also involve viewing a CRT or VDT screen 60% to 85% of the time and the use of other standard office environment. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, smartphones, tablets, and web technology. This position will require the Weatherization Coordinator to support mobile staff members, located at home office sites, satellite locations, and other spaces as required.

Travel: Travel throughout the state to the training center satellite locations and partner facilities will be required. In addition, travel to conferences and other state and out-of-state events may be required.

IMPACT ON PROJECTS, SERVICES AND OPERATIONS: The Weatherization Coordinator has a direct impact on the success of the MDHHS programs administered by BCAEO.
