Assistant Manager Patient Access

Status: Full-time, 40-hours per week, Exempt
Schedule: Must be available to rotate between Day/Evening/Overnight Shifts

Job Summary:

MedStar Health has an opportunity for an Assistant Manager to join our Patient Access team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. As an Assistant Manager, you will be responsible for assisting the Manager(s) in Patient Access with the overall operations of the assigned department within the Patient Access division. Supervise the duties of the Patient Access Representatives. Maintain exemplary levels of customer service in all interactions as they relate to customer service.

Primary Duties:

  • Supervises overall activities of assigned staff. Performs personnel management functions for the designated area to include scheduling, coaching and training as delegated by or with the Manager/Director's approval. May assume the role of the Manager, Patient Access during his/her absence.

  • Works with Manager(s) to develop staff schedule for respective area each month.

  • Effectively relates to peers, supervisor and customers daily.

  • Serves as a liaison between patients and staff by resolving problems, conflicts and concerns as they arise.

  • Assesses work to be completed and assigns or reassigns staff to specific tasks or areas, as needed.

  • Audits patient charts, reviews, critiques and corrects information as needed.

  • Assists Manager(s) and Director in preparing and reviewing quality and productivity by collecting data to be used in completing monthly reports.

  • Monitors department's processes to ensure that all registrations and admissions are appropriately entered. This includes but not limited to: Patients are greeted and registered promptly and courteously; payment is requested for all self-pay and other patients as required; proper identification is obtained from patients; cash security and cash balancing are properly maintained and completed; all statistical reports are completed; telephone and paging procedures are followed.

  • Communicate effectively with Managers by providing updates regarding activities associated with assigned responsibilities and any delays in service.

  • Completes special projects, as assigned.

  • Attends and participates in departmental and hospital meetings, committees, and task forces, as assigned by Manager(s) or Director.

  • Maintains current knowledge of all regulatory requirements, technical and business developments and communicates relevant information to the work group.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associates preferred.

  • 1-2 years of progressively more responsible job-related experience in hospital admissions, hospital or medical business office with experience in insurance, patient registration and the patient admission process required

This position has a hiring range of $58,656 - $98,384
