The Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) is currently seeking talented candidates for a Welder Fabrication Technician at our Silver Springs, NV location. At NATC, the Welder Fabrication Technicians support a team of engineers who design, manufacture, and test innovative automotive mobility solutions.

Founded in 1957, the Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) is a privately owned, independent test, evaluation, design and engineering facility offering development and testing to customers worldwide.

NATC's location in the great basin of Nevada allows our team to access terrain that can represent 85% of the world within a 150-mile radius, providing an excellent test bed for off-road mobility. NATC's operational area includes 1200 sq. miles of natural terrain, that when coupled with 6,200 acres of privately owned test courses, create an unparalleled testing area available to our engineers to innovate and solve our customer's problems. NATC has completed thousands of test programs as a one-stop shop for automotive development.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair products and equipment. Fully analyzes all required blueprints, drawings, work orders, specifications and sketches in order to fabricate, shape, weld, repair and install desired product or part. Have the ability to detect errors and correct through proper procedures and channels. Will plan and properly lay-out work using a variety of hand tools and precision measuring instruments. Will perform set-up and operate industrial machinery and equipment on a daily basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  1. Ensures maintenance, fabrication and welding actions performed are in accordance with test directives.
  2. Must be able to read and understand technical manuals, design specifications, blueprints, SAE and metric drawings, prints etc.
  3. Use hand welding and flame-cutting equipment to weld together metal components and parts or to cut, trim, or scarf metal objects to dimensions, as specified by layouts, work orders, or blueprints.
  4. Position and clamp together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
  5. Locate and repair cracks in equipment using inspection equipment and processes.
  6. Schedules items through the shop to maintain on-time deliveries.
  7. Accurately estimates hours and materials for scheduled jobs.
  8. Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers.
  9. Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  10. Performs related tasks such as thermo cutting and grinding.
  11. Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts.
  12. Coordinates with test personnel and maintenance personnel to ensure required actions are being performed on schedule and records of same are maintained accordingly.
  13. Maintains records of maintenance actions performed on support vehicles.
  14. Responsible for client/customer contacts on test maintenance status and other test related issues.
  15. Works effectively with Engineering, Test Technicians, Mechanics, and Customers in recommending design enhancements and productivity improvements.
  16. Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  17. Inspects finished product for conformance to specifications.
  18. Responsible for shop cleanliness and safety.
  19. Other duties as assigned.



MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:



  1. Perform tests in the field in extreme temperature and/or environmental conditions.
  2. Assist in special projects.
  3. Operate company vehicles in support of test operations.
  4. Assist Maintenance shops with minor maintenance and pay-loading vehicles.



Pay:

$25 - $28



Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent, four (4) years welding fabrication experience and applicable certifications (or the ability to obtain certifications within 1 year of satisfactory employment).
  2. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to read and interpret metal rule.
  3. Extensive knowledge of structural, sheet metal repairs and modifications to include fabrication of sheet metal parts.
  4. Comprehensive knowledge of estimating hours and materials for completing projects.
  5. Complete knowledge of all related skill area machines, equipment and hand tools.
  6. Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, including weld requirement symbology.
  7. Knowledge of wire and filler materials applications for various steel alloys, aluminum, and some exotic materials.
  8. Working knowledge of fixturing and weld set up parameters (amps, volts, etc.).
  9. Working knowledge of conventional and precision measuring instruments.
  10. General knowledge of fabrication, machining and welding equipment maintenance.
  11. Finish grinding applications using manual and power tools
  12. Working knowledge and safe use of handtools.
  13. Able to work in excess of 40 hours per week with varied work shifts.
  14. Must possess a current Nevada Driver's License.
  15. Must be computer literate with basic data base entry, report creation, and report generation skills.
  16. Must be a detail-oriented person.
  17. Proficient in the use of the MS Office Suite.
  18. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, expressing ideas clearly and actively listening to thoughts and ideas of others.
  19. Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  20. Must be professional and personable and able to relate well with employees at all levels.
  21. Must have excellent organization and time management skills.
  22. Must be flexible and able to handle multiple priorities, with the ability to adjust to high pressure and rapidly changing business conditions.
