The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, located in Winston-Salem ("The City of the Arts"), was the rst state-supported, residential school of its kind in the nation. Established by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1963, UNCSA opened in Winston-Salem in 1965 and became part of the University of North Carolina system in 1972. More than 1,300 students from middle school through graduate school train for careers in the arts. The University of North Carolina School of the Arts is dedicated entirely to the professional training of talented students in the performing, visual, and moving image arts. The School of Filmmaking's Graduate Program is seeking a candidate for a full-time regular faculty position to begin in the fall of 2025. A qualified candidate will have a proven track record both professionally and pedagogically in the areas of fiction film and television development and production. This appointment is for a mid-career applicant with significant professional accomplishments as a screenwriter, with at least three years of teaching at the college level or comparable experience in academic or artistic contexts.

We are interested in candidates who can demonstrate how their artistic and teaching practice shows a dedication to working with a culturally, economically, and intellectually diverse community of artists. The ideal candidate will also have the versatility and vision to help shape the program to meet the requirements of a constantly evolving profession.

We are a joint program in creative producing and screenwriting. We are looking for a candidate who can teach our core curriculum courses primarily in the screenwriting discipline. We are also interested in candidates that can add other areas of expertise such as non-fiction filmmaking, directing, experimental film, cinema studies or animation, as well as those who have multi-hyphenate and interdisciplinary approaches to filmmaking.

An earned doctorate/terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline, OR equivalent professional/experiential qualifications, ORequivalent combination of education and professional experience.
