Georgia Pacific is seeking an R&D Technician to support Georgia-Pacific's Building Products Innovation Center in Decatur, GA (just outside of Atlanta, GA). The Research and Development Technician is a role that will assist in the development and improvement of building products' product offerings through experimentation. Assignments typically are in the areas of making laboratory and pilot-scale samples and testing materials to develop and/or improve building products (i.e., gypsum panels, wood structural panels, lumber, specialty gypsum products, accessory products, etc.).

What You Will Do

* Conducting basic and routine laboratory and shop tasks, such as making laboratory boards, product testing, housekeeping, sample testing, and recording process steps and data independently.

* Ability to use discretion to make necessary adjustments to routine testing.

* Ability to manage time effectively to prioritize and complete tasks in an organized and timely manner.

* Weigh out raw materials to make laboratory scale gypsum boards and structural panels (OSB and Plywood)

* Support pilot plant trials to make gypsum boards this includes but is not limited to: weighing out 40 lb. buckets of raw materials, weighing approximately 40 lb. boards, recording process variables during and after pilot runs)

* Cut building materials and construct prototype wall and floor assemblies (as large as 8' x 8' in size)

* Follow SOPs to conduct routine testing to characterize materials/ prototypes and evaluate their properties

* Record weights and measurements in a Microsoft OneNote-based Electronic Laboratory Notebook

*Must have reliable transportation and the ability to ensure regular attendance

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

*Associate's degree , Bachelor's degree, or at least 2 years of laboratory experience or operations experience

*Laboratory or operations experience

* Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, especially Outlook, OneNote, Word, and Excel

* Ability lift to 40 pounds

* Willingness to work in a hybrid laboratory and shop environment

What Will Put You Ahead

* Experience weighing chemicals with balances

* Experience using material characterization equipment (FTIR, tensile testers, microscopes, etc.)

* Using power tools (i.e. table saw, miter saw, hand drill, etc.)

* Construction experience (i.e. building walls, adhering tiles, etc.)
