The Opportunity

The School of Performing Arts at the University of Central Florida, Department of Theatre, seeks a 9-month, tenure-earning assistant professor of voice and speech.We seek a specialist in voice and speech, with experience in one or more voice techniques, who can also serve as voice coach for departmental productions. The ideal candidate will teach voice fundamentals, IPA, dialects and also graduate voice studio. Anticipated start date is August 8, 2025.

Minimum Qualifications:

Terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., MFA) in theatre or a related discipline from an accredited institution and at least two years of professional experience or a nonterminal degree (e.g., M.A.) in theatre or a related discipline from an accredited institution and at least five years of professional experience.

Candidates must be able to teach at least one voice methodology.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Three or more years of teaching voice and speech at the college level and demonstrated expertise in two or more voice methodologies.

  • Terminal degree in Theatre from an accredited institution.

  • Demonstrated ability in teaching graduates and undergraduate students.

  • Demonstrated ability of effective teaching practices and coaching in voice, speech (for the stage).

  • Demonstrated ability in teaching dialects, IPA, voice acting.

  • Evidence of certification or near-completion in one or more of the many voice and speech methodologies (Linklater, Fitzmaurice, Knight-Thompson, etc.).

  • Evidence of expertise/ability to coach voice/dialects on productions.

  • Evidence of commitment to collegiality and collaboration.

  • Demonstrated ability in teaching basic acting classes.
