POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the development of fabrication methods to produce parts and assemblies through the programming, setup, operation and maintenance of MSD machining equipment. The incumbent ensures fabrication conformance to engineering specifications using necessary inspection equipment. Additionally this role provides mechanical support to produce/repair product and/or equipment across multifunctional teams and departments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Produce parts to specifications using machine shop equipment.
  • Develop programs, setup sheets, and fixturing to ensure precise and efficient operation of machine shop equipment.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate various types of conventional/automatic machines, including Computer Numerical Control (CNC) to fabricate parts and assemblies.
  • Ensure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials are aligned and secured onto machines.
  • Establish and monitor speed and feed rates during the machining process.
  • Layout, measure, and prepare stock for part manufacture.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specification to ensure proper fabrication of product.
  • Fabricate, repair, and assemble plastic/metal parts with the operation of mechanical equipment.
  • Operate standard hand and power tools to assemble parts into subassemblies and products.
  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment to maintain proper working operation.
  • Operate standard inspection equipment to confirm that parts conform to supplied drawings or requirements.
  • Perform incoming inspection on parts and ensure parts produced meet specifications.
  • Provide feedback on parts and machining process improvements. May require design of fixtures and jigs.
  • Draft and edit shop operational and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Train personnel in the operation of shop equipment and tools.
  • Maintain inventory and ordering of shop supplies and materials and coordinate work orders and the use of the shop.
  • Maintain shop machines and tools, perform preventative maintenance and simple repairs.
  • Understand and follow safety precautions and ensure compliance with company safety policies. Provide training to others on safety precautions and company policies
  • Specific duties may vary depending upon department requirements.


EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS



  • High school diploma required
  • Minimum of five years machining experience required
  • Accredited trade school diploma may be substituted for two years of experience
  • Experience using basic hand tools and inspection equipment required


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES



  • Proficient in operating the following machine shop equipment:

    • CNC Mill
    • Lathe
    • Water jet
    • Drill Press
    • Band saw
    • Table saw
    • Media blasting
    • Pedestal grinder


  • Knowledge of operation of machinery that perform threading, deburring, lapping, polishing, etc.
  • Ability to interpret basic engineering drawings and requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of the operation and programming of measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, CNC vision systems, and CMM.
  • Familiar with ISO Standards and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Knowledge of material consistencies of typical plastics and metals.
  • Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion.
  • Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact schedules, accuracy and reliability of data, and product quality.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM software (Mastercam).
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected including the ability to multi-task and work productively in a fast paced environment with changing priorities.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to sit and stand for long periods. The individual will occasionally be required to walk; use hands and arms to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. This position requires moving/lifting items up to 50lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is performed in a traditional production environment and/or light-manufacturing facility.

COMPENSATION SUMMARY

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $51,000 to $74,000. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
