Stroger, Jr. Hospital (JHSH) of Cook County is the flagship of the Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS). The Level 1 Trauma center is one of the most respected in the nation. The hospital treats over 150, 000 emergency room patients annually. It is home to more than 300 attending physicians along with more than 400 medical residents and fellows.
Maintains a productivity standard of at least five (5) clinical days per week or the equivalent and 2080 work hours per year. Provides close supervision of all house staff encountered in the course of duty ensuring quality care and provides assessment of residents as directed by the Division chair to fulfill the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education requirements. Participates in the education of medical students, physician assistant students, ophthalmology technician students and nursing students. Documents clinical activity in clinics. Opportunities for research and obligation regarding its performance are by individual arrangement with the Division Chair. Remains clinically active at both John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital and Provident Hospital as directed. Must maintain certification as required to fulfill patient care responsibilities for patients treated by Cook County Health Hospital System (CCHHS). Typical Duties * The capability to prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses and provide vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation. The skill to perform and analyze ancillary tests (OCT) Fluorescein angiography, Visual Field testing and develop a treatment plan. * The proficiency to administer drugs to patients to aid in the diagnosis of vision problems and prescribe drugs to treat some eye diseases. * The knowledge to diagnose conditions caused by systemic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, referring patients to Ophthalmologists and other health practitioners as required. * Such clinical skills and training specified by the Division Chair inviting applications under the authority of the Department of Surgery Chair. * Shares rounding responsibilities with other members of the Division such that the care of all inpatients and observation patients is supervised on a daily basis by an attending * Documents Attending clinical activity: Outpatient progress notes, Consultation notes, and all required finance documentation. * Communicates promptly to the Division chairman all information necessary for the creation of assignments. * Acts with courtesy and collegiality and upholds the highest standards of professionalism in all arenas as representative of the Surgical Services as a whole. * Participates in ongoing clinical trials and investigations offered in the division; participates in administrative committees servicing the department and Hospitals as schedule permits. * In concert with division personnel, helps develop new programs and processes that enhance patient care. * As coordinated with and approved by the Division Chair and approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB), performs research activities; follows all ethical guidelines. * Engages in sufficient Continuing Medical Education to satisfy the requirement of the appropriate Board, Illinois Department of Public Health and Medical Staff by laws; attends Mortality and Morbidity conference, as well as required Division and Department meetings on regular basis and in accordance with established attendance benchmarks. * Requests appropriate specialty consultations and performs inpatient rounds and required Resident teaching sessions as assigned, and as clinical needs dictate. * Participates in Quality Assurance activities as assigned.
