Academic and Career Advisor

Position Overview: We are seeking an Academic and Career Advisor to join our student support team in Greenwood Village, CO. This role is pivotal in guiding students to achieve their academic and career goals through personalized advising and coaching. The Advisor will assist students in selecting courses aligned with their career aspirations, identifying potential career paths, and fostering academic success. Additionally, the Advisor will collaborate with faculty, institutional resources, and outside organizations to support students' holistic development and career readiness. This position requires a collaborative, solutions-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment and values teamwork.

Essential Duties:

Academic Advising


  • Assist students in course selection, aligning with their academic plans and career objectives.
  • Monitor student progress, offering proactive support to ensure students remain on track to graduate.
  • Educate students on university policies, procedures, and resources available for academic success.
  • Address academic challenges through personalized support strategies, connecting students with tutoring or supplemental instruction as needed.


Career Coaching


  • Provide career counseling, helping students explore potential career paths related to their field of study.
  • Assist in developing resumes, cover letters, and job search strategies, including internships and experiential learning opportunities through established university tools and career resources.
  • Coach students on interview preparation, networking strategies, and workplace professionalism.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to design and deliver workshops or webinars on career readiness skills.


Student Development and Retention


  • Employ data-driven insights to identify students at risk and proactively provide guidance and support.
  • Utilize student engagement platforms, such as LMS, Navigate, and SIS, to track and enhance student interactions.
  • Engage students in goal setting and personal development planning, fostering resilience and self-efficacy.
  • Facilitate connections with clubs, organizations, and campus activities to promote engagement.


Employer and Workforce Engagement


  • Establish connections with local and national employers to build pathways for student employment and internships.
  • Stay informed on emerging industry trends and workforce needs to ensure students receive relevant and up-to-date career guidance.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and workforce development initiatives to enhance career readiness and employment outcomes.


Education & Experience:

Education:


  • Master's degree in Education, Business, Counseling, Psychology, or related field required.


Experience:


  • Minimum of 2-3 years in academic advising, career coaching, or related field.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, preferably in higher education.
  • Knowledge of workforce trends, labor market information, and employer expectations.


Skills:


  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to connect and build rapport with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Proficient in using student information systems, learning management systems, and advising software.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion, and compassion.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated competency as a collaborative, solutions-oriented team player who can work in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
