Contracted Faculty of Practice (Adjunct): On-Campus Business Program - Management
Position Overview: CSP is looking to hire both full-time and part-time faculty to support its growing on-campus business programs! To apply for the full-time faculty position, please select the full-time Undergraduate Business Faculty position. There are a variety of undergraduate on-campus courses available for part-time instructors in the disciplines of economics, marketing, and management.
Faculty at Concordia University, St. Paul work as members of an academic team of full- and part-time colleagues to consistently deliver high-quality instruction to students. Faculty are expected to demonstrate innovation and excellence in curriculum planning, foster an atmosphere of active intellectual and creative engagement with students in and out of the classroom, and support the Christian mission of the university. Selected candidates would be offered to teach one or more courses, depending on their area of expertise and interest/availability. All open courses are listed below, also noting that a candidate does not need to have a background in all courses in order to apply. The candidate's background would be aligned with the specific course(s) from the listing below.
Course Description:

  • MAN204 Legal Environment of Business (2 credits): This course examines the administrative and common law regulation of business. Constitutional Law, Title VII, and product liability are covered. Students also examine contract law and the Uniform Commercial Code provisions on sales and secured transactions.

  • MAN302 Operations and Quality Management (2 credits): This course will discuss the theoretical and practical foundations for operations management. The course will focus on the production process (including service), quality, and supply chain management. The production process includes the management of equipment and machinery, facilities, materials management, inventory control, scheduling, and lean operations. Quality includes quality control and quality management, including Six Sigma. Supply chain management includes purchasing, vendor relations, and logistics. The concepts of project management are also reviewed.

  • MAN460 Managing Teams, Communication, and Projects (4 credits): This course focuses on team building and team leadership utilizing communication, conflict management, and decision-making skills. Project management techniques that will enhance success in leading and completing projects are also covered. Students will apply project management knowledge, tools, and techniques to a team project. Topics include creating a project charter and plan, working as a project team, executing the project, and closing out the project. This course is for seniors only.

  • MAN120 Business Fundamentals and Entrepreneurship (2 credits): Learn what it means to be an entrepreneur while exploring foundational concepts in management, marketing, economics, and finance/accounting. Create a full business plan for a small business in class, making daily decisions about the business in a dynamic environment.

  • MAN205 Fundamentals of Analytics (3 credits): Learn the key aspects and best practices of data analysis by exploring the fundamentals of gathering and analyzing data. Create visualizations and dashboard reports utilizing large data sets associated with an industry of choice, such as finance, health, sports, and criminal justice, among others. Microsoft Excel and Tableau will be utilized throughout the course for data visualizations while a basic understanding of the R and Python languages will be explored. A basic understanding of statistical measures may be helpful for this course but not mandatory for successfully mastering these concepts.

Program/College: College of Business & Technology: In the business program, students will learn to think about the overall picture of a business's operations and how it interacts with larger market forces. A business management major at Concordia St. Paul will develop business skills in leadership, team building, and project management. They will explore core business principles in marketing, finance, management, law, economics, and accounting with an emphasis on international perspectives and ethics.
Course Instruction Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate quality student learning through teaching assigned courses.
  • Increase student course engagement by providing a positive and regular presence within the course (at least four days per week for online courses) by engaging students through course activities and ongoing availability to provide student support.
  • Provide substantive and timely feedback on course assessments, following academic unit and university guidelines, within the Learning Management System, typically within five business days of the assessments' due dates.
  • Respond to student inquiries typically within 24 hours during business days unless otherwise specified at the college level (48 hours on weekends, with closer monitoring if assignments are due during the weekend or on Monday).
  • Work collaboratively in a supportive academic environment, partnering with academic advising, career development, and the academic team to ensure each student has the resources they need to succeed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Follow the university and academic unit's policies and procedures.

Qualification:

  • Education Required: Master's degree in Business, Economics or related field.
  • Education Preferred: Terminal degree in Business or related field.
  • Experience Required: At least two years of full-time industry experience.
  • Experience Required: Previous in-person teaching experience.
