Family Engagement Coordinator

Job Description

As an integral member of the Family and Community Engagement (FACE) team, the family engagement coordinator supports the development and implementation of school-based family engagement plans and the facilitation of family engagement focused professional learning across the school division. In addition to leading professional learning sessions, the coordinator is responsible for onboarding new family liaisons and evaluating program effectiveness by maintaining data on professional learning and engagement efforts. This role collaborates closely with family liaisons, school-based staff and department staff to design and implement programs and activities that follow family engagement best practices and align with the division's strategic goals.

The family engagement coordinator reports to the assistant director of family and community engagement.


Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in education, social sciences, community engagement, communications or related field. Master's Degree preferred.

Certificates & Licenses: Valid Driver's License required.

Experience:



  • Minimum of three years of increasingly responsible experience leading and collaborating with team members and various stakeholders, preferably in the field of family engagement.
  • Experience with designing and implementing strategic family engagement practices, programs/events.
  • Experience in cultivating strong relationships with schools, families, community organizations and/or community stakeholders.
  • Successful track record of coaching, mentoring and facilitation of professional learning opportunities for staff.
  • Strong research skills and ability to produce clear and accurate writing.
  • Strong knowledge of multiple educational technology platforms, including, but not limited to: electronic mail and calendars, Microsoft Office, Google Docs, E-Learning, Canva and Adobe products.
  • Experience working with economically disadvantaged, diverse and historically marginalized communities.


Languages: Spanish-speaking preferred

  • Strong organizational, planning and work plan development skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to successfully engage and form strong relationships with diverse families.
  • Able to adjust, as needed, to a flexible early morning, evening hours in addition to some weekend work schedules.
  • Must be a detail-oriented self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Must have the ability to travel daily to schools and/or community sites as needed.


Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the point of contact and collaborative/reflective lead between school buildings and FACE to support the development and analysis of school family engagement action-plans (blueprints) that are aligned with school improvement plans. This includes collaboration with family liaisons and school engagement teams to design programs and activities.
  • Support school teams in the design and implementation of family engagement initiatives, workshops, and events that support the systemic alignment of family engagement practices.
  • Oversee and lead the review of engagement metrics for goals articulated in school-based family engagement action-plans.
  • Compile reports for leadership on family engagement outcomes, participation trends, and improvement areas.
  • Assess, develop and create a strategic plan to provide best practice family engagement professional learning opportunities (ex. dual capacity-building framework, equity and culturally-aligned practices, positive communication and welcoming environments) for family liaisons, building and department staff and aligned community site teams.
  • Coordinate and facilitate family liaison monthly meetings and regular site visits.
  • Develop and distribute professional learning tools and staff communications, such as newsletters, flyers, and digital content, in collaboration with the communications and outreach teams as needed.
  • Onboard new family liaisons and interns.
  • Assist in the evaluation of the school-based and division-wide family liaisons.
  • Re-imagine, reflect and research family engagement resource guides and tools to aid with the implementation of evidence-based Family Engagement systems, programs and initiatives - including the Welcome ACPS initiative - across the division.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining data collection, implementation and reporting of FACE activities. This includes assessments, compliance, outreach efforts, workshop participation and surveys.
  • Assists assistant director of family engagement in assessing effectiveness of the FACE programs.
  • Must be available some evenings and weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Clearances:



  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.


Public Health Compliance



  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
