Our Mechanical engineers research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy and improve cutting edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll conceptualize and deliver complex mechanical structures and systems and your technical duties include the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle. Key Responsibilities In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing specialized tools, jigs, and fixtures for the manufacturing and assembly of aerospace components and systems. You will collaborate with manufacturing engineers and design engineers to understand specific manufacturing requirements and constraints, conducting feasibility studies to provide recommendations for tooling solutions that optimize manufacturing efficiency and quality. Using CAD software, you will create detailed tool designs, including 3D models, drawings, and specifications, and conduct design reviews in collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure tool designs meet project requirements and standards. Additionally, you will liaise with suppliers and vendors to select and procure tooling components and materials, and you will develop and maintain comprehensive tooling documentation, including design files, drawings, and specifications. Your role will include supporting manufacturing and assembly teams in the implementation and use of specialized tools and fixtures, conducting tooling validation and verification activities to ensure tool performance and functionality. You will also collaborate with technicians and operators, providing training and guidance on the use of specialized tools and fixtures. Staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in tool design and manufacturing technologies, you will apply relevant knowledge to ongoing projects and ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations in all tool design and manufacturing activities. Your contribution will be vital in driving the efficiency and quality of our manufacturing processes. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience Proven experience in tool design engineering, preferably in the aerospace or manufacturing industry. Strong knowledge of tool design principles and their application to manufacturing processes. Proficiency in NX for tool design and modeling. Experience with aerospace manufacturing processes, assembly techniques and requirements. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations in the aerospace and manufacturing field. Familiarity in applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures in tool design and manufacturing activities. Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. Experience in the aerospace industry or a related field. Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing processes and requirements. Knowledge of additive manufacturing technologies and their application to tool design. Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) for tool design validation in FEMAP. Familiarity with regulatory requirements and certifications in the aerospace industry. Experience with programming languages commonly used in tool design, such as MATLAB or Python. Physical/Mental/Emotional Requirements: Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity Rarely lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs.
