Description of primary duties and responsibilities: |
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The Department of Performing and Fine Arts produces graduates who will be leaders and advocates in their respective fields in the performing and fine arts - music, dance, theatre, and visual arts. The Department is also committed to building community through the arts by being a resource for performing and fine arts pedagogy and performance, cultivating a climate where creativity flourishes, engaging the community with the arts, and making the arts accessible to all. While our offerings, programs, courses, and faculty have grown over the years, our core educational mission remains the same - to unleash each student's artistic potential in performance, creation, or scholarship.

Description of Work Continued: |
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The assistant professor position is a tenure track, 9-month appointment. The assistant professor is expected to teach courses in music, develop and teach new courses, advise/mentor students, and serve on department, college, and university committees. The assistant professor is also expected to engage in research and creative activities. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: |
- The assistant professor must hold a PhD, DMA, or DM in Music Performance or Music Education.
- Demonstrated record of scholarly achievement.
- Record of community engagement and community collaboration.
- Record of commitment for excellence in teaching, mentoring, and advising of HBCU undergraduate students.

Preferred Qualifications: |
Qualifications in or experience teaching courses in one or more of the following areas: applied instruction in low brass, jazz ensemble, jazz improvisation, history of jazz, music theory, orchestration, and jazz ensemble. |
