Summary:

The Mental Health Technician functions as an active part of the multidisciplinary treatment team to ensure the safety, dignity, and respect of all patients by providing continuous patient care, observation, direct interaction, de-escalation support and role modeling of coping skills to patients.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients with performing activities of daily living; interacts directly with patients, attends to patient needs and helps in behavioral crisis intervention as needed.
  • Assist in providing therapeutic patient care, in group or one-to-one settings.
  • Ensures the safety and accurate location of patients at all times, including strict adherence to rounding standards, rounding documentation and responsibility for overall milieu management.
  • Monitors safety of patients, visitors, and environment, including infection control standards, daily environmental rounds for safety, sanitation, codes, door locks and alarms.
  • Actively performs observes/monitors and records patient behavior and activities including meals and monitoring food intake and output. Completes documentation related to the daily treatment progress notes as required within the medical record.
  • Completes and records patient vitals, including orthostatic vitals, as directed by nursing leadership.
  • Immediately reports any changes in patient condition or safety to the treatment team.
  • Ensures safe transport and transition of patients to and from scheduled program activities including groups, cafeteria, and outdoor time.
  • Orients and educates patients upon admission and document as required, completing patient belongings search and documenting patient belongings.
  • Provides float coverage support to all inpatient levels of care as required.

Additional Job Description:

Education/Training Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's degree preferred, or two (2) years direct patient care or related experience.
  • Valid WI driver's license preferred.
  • Formal training will be provided for the following:
  • American Heart Association CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) within 60 days of hire.
  • Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF) trainings within 90 days of hire.
