Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The College of Health and Human Services ( CHHS) is an interdisciplinary and integrated academic unit that includes three professional schools: the School of Nursing, the School of Social Work, and the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences. Housed within CHHS are administrative, academic, and student support teams, a community engagement unit, and the Business Core Services Team ( BCST), which provides centralized financial, human resources, facility management, systems training and support, and reporting services to all CHHS units.
This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Administration and Resource Management is part of the CHHS Business Core Services Team ( BCST). The BCST provides financial, budgetary, personnel, events, facilities, systems training and support, and reporting services to all CHHS units.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
This position is responsible for managing the recruitment, hiring, and separation process for all permanent and time-limited staff and all permanent and part-time (temporary) faculty in the college. This position requires the ability to manage a variety of complex processes and exercise a high level of independent decision-making regarding structural decisions and position efficiency. This position provides training for recruitment processes across the college and ensures all documentation is submitted correctly and in alignment with policies and procedures. This position serves as the primary liaison between CHHS and Human Resources and Academic Affairs Personnel Administration ( AAPA) for all HR matters other than employee relations.
Responsibilities Include:

  • Advising administrators on best hiring practices and collaborating with leadership to develop and implement policies, guidelines, and procedures for hiring and separation.
  • Collaborating with hiring officials to develop position descriptions for SHRA, EHRA, and EHRA Non-Faculty positions, providing recommendations, justifications, and analysis.
  • Developing and presenting recruitment strategies and advertising and outreach methods.
  • Designing methods to maintain and streamline progressive searches using comprehensive and easy-to-use documentation.
  • Managing onboarding and separation process for full-time faculty and staff, including documentation for initial and continuing employment.
  • Interpreting market analysis for faculty, SHRA, and EHRA Non-Faculty positions.
  • Developing and providing training to search committees, hiring officials, administrators, and support staff on recruitment policies and procedures for the college.
  • Ensuring recruitment aligns with college and university strategies, that the search process is inclusive, and complies with all applicable guidelines.
  • Managing and tracking the post-tenure review process and search committee training compliance requirements for all post-tenure review candidates.
  • Acting as a subject expert for all hiring, separation, continuing employment, promotion, reappointment, and recruitment policies and procedures.
  • Managing certification of credentialing process for teaching faculty
  • Researching, presenting, and tracking diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies for recruitment.
  • Requesting and tracking onboarding documentation; i9, CBC, transcripts, certifications, and licensures for all CHHS employees.
  • Overseeing the promotion and reappointment process for all CHHS faculty issuing appropriate contingent offer letters, extension, and reappointment letters.
  • Maintaining all documentation within shared services applications.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years' experience with hiring processes.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple complex projects.
  • Experience with technical writing or editing, especially related to position descriptions.
  • Experience in delivering training in person and/or in a virtual setting.
  • Experience with ensuring compliance with external regulations.

  • UNCW experience or other University system schools.
  • Familiarity with Banner, PeopleAdmin, and Perceptive.
  • Understanding of organizational structures within Higher Education.
