The College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for Industrial Design faculty positions in the top-ranked Myron E. Ullman, Jr. School of Design (SoD). The School of Design intends to hire up to two (2) qualified faculty members. The primary mission of the College of DAAP is the creation of a better cultural and design environment. The School of Design's role in advancing that mission is to prepare our approximately 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students to be responsible professionals and citizens in a complex and evolving world. We achieve this through a distinctive, rigorous, carefully sequenced curriculum that includes a substantial cooperative education program component dating back more than 100 years. This curricular model, expressed in classrooms, research labs, and professional offices all over the world, integrates practice and theory. It inspires interdisciplinary projects, builds solid corporate partnerships, and contributes to our strength as a leading design institution. Job Overview
This is a full-time, 9-months per year (non-tenure track) position. The workload is 90% teaching and 10% service commitments. The typical Industrial Design teaching load for an Educator is 8 (3 credit) courses per academic year. Our faculty are passionate about teaching Industrial Design (ID), as the opportunities for industrial designers expand and diversify. The Industrial Design Program is recognized as a highly rated program nationally and internationally. Our nationally ranked Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design provides a platform for discovery, experimentation, and specialization by way of strong foundational skills, experiential learning, user-centered research, craft and conceptual development, hands-on prototyping, and technological literacy. Industrial Design students develop skills, gain knowledge, and grow experience through a sequential curriculum of studio, theory, and methods courses, which diversifies based on their interests and expertise halfway through the five-year program. In addition, students gain real-world experience via working in the field nationally and internationally on co-op during five separate semesters. Essential Functions
