Job Summary

With a high level of independence, this position is responsible for the fiscal control, accounting and reporting of all levels of contracts and grants awarded in support of research, training and public service programs. Responsible for analyzing, monitoring, preparing and reconciling financial information to provide financial and statistical data for the control of contract and grant operations. This position also involves the preparation of financial reports to meet internal and external requirements. Uses accounting and financial concepts with intermediate to complex understanding of accounting practices and campus policies and procedures to complete assignments requiring analysis of data and review of a variety of factors and documents. Exercises judgment within accounting procedures and practices to identify appropriate action. Has internal and external contact on a regular basis. Thorough understanding of contract and grant administration theory and puts it into practice while independently performing a full range of responsibilities within the functions of contract and grant management. Attends training workshops for present and future career development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA), or ability to obtain certification within a 12-month time period from date of appointment.
  • No minimal education required.
  • Experience in the management of grants and contracts and skills to interpret and apply relevant policies.
  • Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment and demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures, and techniques.
  • Ability to independently perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting and to thrive in a busy, high-volume, and deadline-driven work environment that requires coordination of multiple activities.
  • Current knowledge of compliance regulations for Federal and State awards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with contracts and grants on the UC Davis campus or within a large university system.
  • Experience in a bookkeeping or accounting position, or experience performing financial tasks in an accounting environment.
  • Expert level knowledge of UC policies and procedures.
  • Skills to independently manage a significant volume of transactions.
  • Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.

Department Overview

The Research Admin 3 is responsible for the management of the administrative operations across multiple grants, cooperative agreements, and business contracts of diverse scope. The Research Admin is responsible for keeping faculty, staff and subcontractors in compliance with the requirements and restrictions of awards and agreements, assisting third parties including UCOP and Federal Offices/Agencies with audits of expenditures, and developing and managing budgets and financial reports in an extremely fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
