Purpose

The Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact between the field station (https://fieldstations.utexas.edu/field-stations/brackenridge-field-laboratory) and potential volunteers, as well as external community partners. This individual will play a key role in recruiting, engaging, and retaining volunteers while also fostering meaningful partnerships with local organizations to extend the reach of our mission. The role requires excellent communication skills, a passion for community engagement, and the ability to build relationships both internally and externally.

Responsibilities
  • Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement:
  • Actively recruit volunteers through outreach campaigns, community events, social media, and partnerships with local organizations.

  • Screen and interview potential volunteers to match their skills and interests with appropriate opportunities.

  • Maintain regular communication with volunteers, ensuring they have the support and resources needed to succeed in their roles.

  • Organize volunteer training sessions, orientations, and recognition events.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive volunteer culture that encourages ongoing engagement and satisfaction

  • Outreach & Community Partnerships:
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local schools, businesses, nonprofits, and other community organizations to identify opportunities for collaboration and volunteer involvement.

  • Represent the organization at community events, fairs, and meetings to raise awareness of the organization's mission and volunteer opportunities.

  • Coordinate outreach initiatives and campaigns to attract new volunteers and strengthen community engagement.

  • Administrative Support:
  • Maintain an accurate database of volunteer contacts, hours worked, and activities.

  • Assist with scheduling volunteer shifts and coordinating logistics for volunteer-driven events.

  • Track and report on volunteer engagement metrics and outreach outcomes.

  • Help manage volunteer recognition and appreciation efforts, ensuring volunteers feel valued for their contributions.

  • Advocacy and Promotion:
  • Develop and share compelling stories and testimonials that highlight the impact of volunteers and the field station's work in the community.

  • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to promote volunteer opportunities and activities through digital, print, and social media platforms.

Required Qualifications
  • BS in Ecology or related field

  • At least 3 years experience in volunteer coordination, event planning, or community outreach.

  • Passion for community engagement and social impact.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse groups of people.

  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with volunteer management software or CRM systems is a plus.

  • Flexible schedule and availability to attend community events, meetings, and volunteer activities.

  • Experience working at a field station and an understanding of the unique goals and challenges associated with field station outreach

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$36,000 + depending on qualifications
