Purpose

To develop and execute the strategic vision for the Liberal Arts Honors Scholars Program, working with the Program Director to identify goals and initiatives. Design programming and advising strategies for students in the LAH Scholars program from orientation to graduation as well as manage day-to-day operations of the LAH Scholars program.

Responsibilities
  • Communicate with LAH students registered for summer orientation. Coordinate with New Student Services, UT Parent Association, COLA Student Division and other departments for room reservations, publications, student rosters, etc. Train and coordinate LAH Peer Orientation Advisers.

  • Advise current LAH students on LAH Scholars requirements, individual degree planning, academic policies, institutional rules and regulations, honors and research opportunities, study abroad, internships, and career planning.

  • Coordinate opportunities for upper division honors work including liberal arts honors certification and college level planning for departmental honors programs. Identify and track upper-division Liberal Arts Honor students. Maintain LAH Scholars online portal, working with LAITS as needed. Certify students with LAH Scholars or LAH Distinguished Scholars designation upon graduation as appropriate.

  • Continuously work to initiate new lower-division and upper-division honors offerings in Liberal Arts and other colleges. Oversee seat management and registration for LAH courses. Attend and support LAH Scholars required courses, LAH 102H and LAH 103H. Serve as point of contact for LAH 103H The Ideas of Civic Engagement taught in spring semesters.

  • Create programming, including workshops and other events, to enhance the LAH student experience. Coordinate fall welcome luncheon and graduation reception. Provideleadership/mentorshipto Liberal Arts Honors Students Council.

  • Oversee scholarship competitions for and award over $300,000 in LAH and Humanities scholarship funds annually. Read applications and participate in selection committees for Temple finalists, Rapoport-King and many other scholarships. Develop and implement policies for evaluating scholarship applications and making award decisions. Create budget for scholarship accounts. Design scholarship applications using survey tools and writing essay prompts, as needed. Coordinate scholarship review committees. Promote scholarship opportunities to eligible students and communicate award decisions to applicants.

  • Design and implement a vision for communicating with LAH stakeholders across social media platforms; analyze effectiveness; and make strategic recommendations for the future. Hire and supervise a team of student interns to work on social media and Humanities and Liberal Arts Honors websites. Coordinate the communication of funding, internship, employment, research, and other academic enrichment opportunities to current students and alumni.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.

  • Five years of related staff or organizational management experience.

  • Demonstrated high energy, self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to work effectively both independently and with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment. Ability to think strategically, creatively, and collaboratively as well as foster and maintain a positive team-oriented environment.

  • Work well under pressure work in a high-volume office, and effectively manage details of several concurrent projects.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Understanding of and commitment to higher education.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD in related field.

  • More than five years of experience in tasks related to position.

  • Strong background in undergraduate student advising.

  • Involvement in faculty-related higher education administrative management.

  • Familiarity with UT policies and procedures.

  • Familiarity with Honors Programs at UT Austin.

  • Project management experience, including planning, creating, and monitoring budgets.

Salary Range

$68,000 + depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
