Help meet urgent public health needs while launching your career! As health needs continue to grow and evolve, there's never been a more important time to support the health and wellness of our communities. Join Public Health Corps - together, we can take action to create a healthier Minnesota!

As a Public Health Project Coordinator, you can help the public health system deliver critical services in your community. Public Health Corps, in partnership with the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, provides you with valuable, hands-on experience in public health, plus career coaching and support from public health experts. You provide the skills, dedication and time that our communities need.

Join our AmeriCorps team on a mission to increase public health capacity and ensure systems are responsive to community needs! We're actively seeking members for 2024-25 program year. Put your passion into action - become a Project Coordinator and be the difference!

How You'll Take Action

  • Help facilitate research, data collection and survey administration.
  • Engage community members in focus groups and public health conversations.
  • Advance health and racial equity initiatives.
  • Support public health education campaigns.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Gain hands-on experience in public health while embedded in a governmental public health agency.
  • Share your experience with the wider community as a Public Health Corps ambassador.

It Starts with a Passion

Our members come from all walks of life. Anyone can become a Project Coordinator as long as they have a passion to make a difference - and meet the following minimum qualifications.

By the time they begin their service, our Project Coordinators are:

  • Dependable and have a history of good attendance.
  • Able to manage projects.
  • Able to set a pace and maintain a service schedule, depending on the agreed upon hours commitment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), internet searches, data entry, email communication (with attachments), databases and software use, and videoconferencing.
  • Fluent in English.
  • 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.*
  • Able to successfully complete a background check.

*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve in our programs at this time. DACA applicants may be eligible for Americorps VISTA programs. For more information, click here.


Perks Package

While you're making a difference, you'll receive a paycheck (stipend) every two weeks and additional perks! As an AmeriCorps program we have both federally provided benefits and program specific benefits.

Federal Benefits include:

  • Up to $7395.00 in Education Award
    • Segal AmeriCorps Education Award* which can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ at the start of their service term may gift their award to a family member. Click Here for more information.
  • Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment.
  • Time accrual toward Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

Program Specific Benefits by hours commitment per week


40 Hours
  • $1275 stipend paid every two weeks.
  • Individual health insurance - monthly premium 100% covered.
  • Child care assistance - based on family size and income.

25 Hours

  • $725 stipend paid every two weeks.
