Art Instructor-Ceramics

We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced ceramics artist to teach ages 8 - adult. The candidate must be knowledgeable in hand building as well as throwing on the pottery wheel. The position will include minor studio maintenance such as reclaiming clay. The ability to teach multiple art mediums is a plus.

Your role includes managing class materials, maintaining attendance records, and working closely with students to ensure they achieve their artistic goals. For youth programs, you'll help cultivate important developmental skills, aligning with the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets. As a passionate advocate for the arts, you'll also promote programs, encourage participation, and provide mentorship to both youth and adults. Your work will inspire creativity, build confidence, and contribute to the community's artistic growth!

In keeping with the mission of The Salvation Army, The Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center provides facilities, programs and services that strengthen, encourage, and enrich children, adults, and seniors through positive life-changing experiences.

SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Art Instructor will be responsible for planning and teaching group and private art lessons at The Salvation Army Kroc Center.

  1. Plan and execute art classes with a curriculum that appeals to a wide range of interests, capabilities, and age ranges including: group and / or private art lessons in various media types.
  2. Prepare lesson plans for applicable classes and track student progress.
  3. Communicate regularly with participants to ensure they are aware of progress.
  4. Maintain attendance records for the art classes and provide them to the Performing and Creative Arts Coordinator to be entered into the Community Center Management System (CCMS).
  5. Ensure an adequate supply of art materials is available for use.
  6. For youth programs, create an environment in the art programs that facilitates the outcomes of the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets for Youth.
  7. Promote and stimulate participation in Kroc Center art programs.
  8. Provide role modeling and guidance to both youth and adults. Ensure adequate safety measures are taken with regards to class activities, materials and tools uses, and storage.


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Participate in regular in-service training sessions as necessary.


MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT: Uses a variety of creative arts equipment and supplies and a variety of office equipment including a computer, telephone, fax machine, copiers, printers and projection machines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • One year of formal education or training required. Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts preferred.
  • 1+ years experience in teaching art classes required.


OR -

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: None.

  • Strong computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office products, e-mail, and Internet.
