The University of Virginia's College at Wise invite applicants for a full-time Academic & Professional Development Program Manager to assist with academic and professional program development and implementation for the Office of Community & Business Development. The location for this position will be located in the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, VA with occasional travel to the Oxbow Center in St. Paul, VA and The University of Virginia's College at Wise campus in Wise, VA. Job Description:
- Manage daily operations of the Abingdon office by ensuring appropriate coordination of events, meetings, and programs.
- Provide customer service and support for partners, guest, and program registrants.
- Maintain accurate and timely reports to include facility-usage and program activity.
- Develop and nurture relationships with strategic partners.
- Coordinate basic facility support functions; including, website updates, social media management, digital signage management, and event set-ups.
- Manage budgets to include budget reconciliation and adherence to proper procurement protocols, and regulations; administer grant funds and programs; invoicing clients for facility rentals and charges.
- Develop, coordinate, and promote academic and professional development programs throughout the region.
- Correspondences with academic institutions, local businesses, public school systems and community organizations.
- Actively engage in the community via Chambers of Commerce, civic organizations, outreach programs, and project a favorable image of the organization to promote objectives and foster/enhance recognition of UVA Wise.
- Perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner in accordance with established organizational policies to achieve the overall objectives of this position.
- Maintain a favorable working relationship with all organizational employees, departments, external stakeholders, facilitators, and participants to promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate, which will be conducive to maximum morale, productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Work with respective departments at UVA Wise and in the community to evaluate the needs of the area to build academic and professional development programs to fill the gaps in the region.
- Provide administrative assistance and coordination services to the office's Associate Vice Chancellor and overall office staff.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by the Associate Vice Chancellor and overall office staff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, business administration, technology related programs or liberal arts preferred.
- 2 years' experience in a business, economic or community development, outreach, professional development design/development, or operational capacity
- Ability to develop and manage multiple projects
- Must be able to market programs and successfully outreach to community, potential clients
- Strong interpersonal skills: honesty, integrity, dedication, loyalty, personable, approachable, and respectful
- Responsible: must be dependable, respect confidentiality, flexible, self-starter, self-motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit and a team player
- Computer Skills: Proficient with Windows (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Office Exchange, Access) and competent internet usage
- Excellent client service skills
- Communication: excellent grammar, written skills, listening skills and presentation skills
- Goal-oriented: team player, supportive, success-minded, eager to learn/contributes to productive work environment, encouraging, optimistic, works hard to achieve goals, ability to think creatively
- Problem Solving: ability to think independently; take ownership of problem and negotiate solutions
- Flexibility to work some nights or weekends as may arise from certain event attendance.
- Some travel required, including consistent travel throughout the UVA Wise service region.
