What Inventory Management contributes to Cardinal Health
Operations is responsible for materials handling and product distribution in a distribution or manufacturing environment. Includes warehousing and fulfillment of materials and products, transportation, inventory management as well as demand, supply and manufacturing planning.

Inventory Management is accountable for the design and execution of demand planning and customer forecasting systems, supply planning, product deployment and expediting processes, and the development and implementation of a stocking optimization model to minimize costs and inventory while delivering on service requirements.

Job Summary

The Manager, Inventory Management is a critical role that leads the sites Inventory Management team and oversees the stocking optimization and inventory planning in the facility through a team of supervisors and other professionals. The manager contributes to the facilitys profitability through managing supplier costs and driving operational improvements. As the primary liaison to the Souring and Inventory functions, the manager provides key input into supplier negotiations, demand planning and forecasting and translates operational changes in the broader distribution network into requirements for the facility.

About the National Logistics Center

The National Logistics Center (NLC) is in Groveport, Ohio and is the central hub for the receipt of Rx products for the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain, receiving over 93% of the networks volume and distributing to the Forward Distribution Centers (FDCs) located across the country. The facility is 425,000 square feet and operates multiple shifts 24/7 processing daily receipts and shipments of approximately $520M.

Location

This is an on-site position (5 days per week), based out of the National Logistics Center.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the sites Inventory Management team by setting short and long-term objectives, directs tasks for individual teams and professionals, and provides guidance on complex issues. Leads regular meetings with supervisors across multiple shifts to ensure alignment.
  • Drives the profitability and operating margins of the facility by implementing supplier contracts with minimal costs. Regularly monitors revenues and costs at the supplier level and assesses opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
  • Gains consensus with teams at 24 FDCs to efficiently manage product flow and minimize product damage and the need for discrepancy research.
  • Understands the importance of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) principles and sponsors formal projects to drive continuous process improvement.
  • Based on expert knowledge of the facilitys operations as well as analyses and reporting conducted by their team, provides inputs into supplier negotiations executed by Sourcing teams. Ensures that supplier agreements are aligned to the capabilities and economics of the facility.
  • Provides input and feedback into the business units demand planning and forecasting based on inventory planning and supplier relations.
  • Evaluates the impact of changes in standard operating procedures, network planning and major supplier agreements on the facilitys operations. Coordinates with Managers, Warehouse Operations and FDC Site Leaders to modify operations to meet new requirements and customer commitments.
  • Evaluates performance of teams and of direct reports, providing regular feedback and development opportunities. Participates in people management activities including performance reviews, recruiting and onboarding, and talent management.
  • Directs regular cycle counts to ensure high inventory accuracy and to troubleshoot and resolve customer issues.
  • Key interface with suppliers on item overage, shortage and damages resolution.
  • Ensures process controls in place to properly manage adjustments and morgue activity to limit impacts to financial results.
  • Partners with the Inventory team on key network initiatives.

    Qualifications

    • 5-7 years of experience, preferred
    • Bachelors degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred
    • Experience working with technologies, like computers or point of sale systems, a plus
