Summary:

The Operating Room Scheduler is responsible for coordinating and scheduling all surgical procedures within the operating room. This role involves collaborating with surgeons, nursing staff, and administrative personnel to ensure optimal utilization of surgical resources while maintaining high standards of patient care. The Scheduler will also manage scheduling conflicts, patient information, and operational workflow to enhance departmental efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinates and schedules operative procedures for all Operating Room locations utilizing necessary resources while keeping in mind quality patient care.
  2. Collaborate with surgical teams to optimize schedules based on urgency and resource availability.
  3. Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologist, nursing staff, and other relevant parties regarding scheduling details and changes.
  4. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all scheduled surgeries, including patient information, procedure types, and special requirements.
  5. Monitor and resolve scheduling conflicts and logistical challenges, ensuring minimal disruption to surgical services.
  6. Utilize electronic medical record systems to input, update, and retrieve patient and scheduling information.
  7. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies regarding patient confidentiality and data management.
  8. Other duties assigned.

Technical Expertise

  1. Experience in an operating room setting or documented surgical knowledge is preferred.
  2. Familiarity with medical terminology, especially related to surgical procedures is preferred.
  3. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage complex scheduling tasks is required.
  4. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with healthcare professionals and patients is required.
  5. Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment is required.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.
  7. Epic Op Time software experience is preferred.

Education and Experience

  1. Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Associates degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or related field is preferred.
  2. Certification: Basic Heart Saver is required within 6 months of hire.
  3. Years of relevant experience: Minimum 1 to 2 years of experience in a healthcare scheduling role is preferred.
  4. Years of experience supervising: N/A
