Summary of Job Duties:Project Heal, a community violence prevention research program, is recruiting an outstanding early career researcher to join our team. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will work closely Dr. Lovelady and other mentoring faculty involved in Project Heal research to develop and sustain a shared research agenda in the field of community firearm violence prevention. The postdoctoral fellow will have a primary research focus on health disparities/equity, intervention development and implementation of hospital-based and community-level violence interventions, mental/behavioral health, community engagement, underrepresented/underserved populations, and urban/rural health in southern settings. The successful candidate must be committed to applying and integrating these research interests and commitments into your academic research career in public health.

For full consideration, applicants must provide: 1) Two-page cover letter stating research interests and career goals, 2) current curriculum vitae, 3) official transcripts, and 4) Contact list for three academic/professional references. Qualifications:

Doctorate degree in behavioral health, social science; public health, psychology, or related field required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • 1-3 years conducting research-related activities

  • Demonstrated foundational research knowledge and skills (i.e. research design, methodology, data collection and analysis, and dissemination)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • A desire to work with multi-disciplinary collaborators

  • Knowledge of community firearm health disparities and prevention

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years conducting research-related activities.

  • Demonstrated commitment and interest in community firearm health disparities and prevention as a primary career focus.

  • Specific interest in research addressing existing inequalities, disparities, and inequities related to firearm injury.

  • Knowledge of implementation science/research.

  • Knowledge and demonstrated skills for conducting mixed methods research.

  • Advanced qualitative data collection and analysis techniques.

  • Prior experience working with diverse and underrepresented populations.

  • Demonstrated scientific writing skills (i.e. 1-3 peer-reviewed manuscripts, small grants secured, grantsmanship training).

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with currently funded Project Heal research projects.

  • Collect and analyze both qualitative and quantitative data.

  • Assist with intervention adaptations and implementation

  • Operationalize CE principles and strategies for successful engagement of community participants and partners.

  • Practice team science and collaborate with experts in various disciplines.

  • Prepare and manage materials for regulatory IRB submissions.

  • Prepare reports of findings for written and oral presentations.

  • Prepare and submit manuscripts for peer-reviewed scientific publications.

  • Disseminate findings in academic, practice, and community settings.

  • Perform literature reviews and syntheses

  • Develop new research project ideas.

  • Prepare and submit grant applications.

  • Assist with oversight of student staff and volunteers involved in research activities.

  • Attend and coordinate mentorship regular meetings and activities.

  • Develop and execute an Individual Development Plan for the training period and beyond.

  • Develop and/or practice research analytical techniques and community engagement skills through directed study and mentorship.

  • Acquire training and mentorship on job market skills, professionalism, communication, leadership and management, in addition to academic/scientific training.

  • Complete relevant research skill and career development training opportunities through the UAMS campus, including those provided by the Office of Research and Innovation, Translational Research Institute, Center for Faculty Excellence, Postdoctoral Society, Center for Implementation Research, Southern Public Health and Criminal Justice Center, etc.

  • Attend and present in the COPH early career training workgroup.

  • Attend and present at national conferences, seminars, site visits, workshops, and other training opportunities, including those within the NIH-funded National Community Firearm Violence Prevention Network.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
