Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for the Child Health Institute at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of Dr. Zhiping Pang (PI), the Postdoc(s) will be responsible for the design, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of experiments regarding the study of molecular mechanisms of the regulation of synaptic transmission in mammalian brain and human neurons derived from human tissue. In addition, the Postdoc(s) should have a strong background in neuroscience and/or cell biology and be able to perform molecular, cellular and/or electro-physiological experiments.
The Postdoc(s) will participate in lab meetings, research in progress seminars, and presentations at conferences. They will prepare manuscripts based on their research, aid in developing the PI's grant applications, and will be expected to apply for personal grant funding.
As part of their career development to transition to the next phase of their career, the applicant(s) will be trained in improving their experimental design skills and their oral and written presentation skills. Multiple resources for career development to aid with these requirements will be provided by the PI and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Whole-cell patch clamp electrophysiology in brain slices and cell cultures.
- Behavioral tests in mice.
- In vivo 2p imaging in head-fixed mice.
- Compile and analyze data with appropriate conclusions and recommendations in support of further CHI research.
- Communicate with the PI and present the data in a timely manner.
- Keep up to date on the relevant literature in both peer-reviewed and preprint form and assist the PI in preparation of manuscripts and grant applications relevant to own experimental work.
- Assist with the instruction and training of students (undergraduate and graduate) in laboratory techniques and procedures in cellular and molecular analysis to carry out research assignments.
- Assist in the establishment of performance standards, as well as in the selection of research methodologies and instrumentation, and coordination of instrumentation and experimental approaches in support of CHI research.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Candidate(s) must hold a PhD or MD degree in Neuroscience or relevant biological sciences.
- Candidates in the ABD (all but degree) status will also be considered.

Certifications/Licenses |
- Must be able to work with rodent animals and human embryonic cells.
- Must have effective oral and written communication skills; and ability to understand and communicate in English to sufficiently perform the job duties.
- Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Must be highly motivated, self-driven, creative, and interactive.
- Must have the ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Must have at least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
