We're actively seeking a talented Director - Reinsurance Operations to join our Enterprise Ceded Reinsurance in Newport Beach, CA; or Omaha NE. This role can be on-site or hybrid. As a Director - Reinsurance Operations, you'll play a key role in Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by leading major reinsurance activities. You will fill a role that manages a team of 5 people in the Enterprise Ceded Reinsurance team. Your team will include Reinsurance Specialists, Financial Analysts, Systems Analysts, and Business Strategy Analysts. You will report directly to the AVP of Enterprise Ceded Reinsurance and your peers will be two Actuaries & Directors with 3 supporting actuaries. This team enjoys a collaborative environment where we work together within the Chief Actuaries area to deliver reinsurance solutions to the entire Pacific Life organization.

How you will make an impact:

  • Manage and coordinate all Reinsurance Administration (a.k.a. the TAI system) system activities.

  • Managing a team of highly skilled financial analysts, business strategists and systems analysts.

  • Supporting timelines required to implement new ceded reinsurance treaties as well as management of in-force treaties for Enterprise of Pacific Life Insurance Company including:

    • Traditional life and annuity markets

    • Workforce Benefits

    • Institutional Division

    • Collaboration with PLRe

    • Settlements related to Captives Program, Modco and Financial Reinsurance arrangements

    • AffiliateRe transactions

  • Lead the team through innovation and change management in an agile manner.

  • Create a team first atmosphere with an open mind to change and innovation.

  • Ensure strong collaboration with all internal departments to ensure that all needs are met regarding information, system needs and training.

  • Mentor team members for guidance on career paths, including cross training to build strong succession plans.

  • Collaborate with AVP of Reinsurance as well as Director & Actuary roles to ensure systems, governance and prudent system requirements are put in place for all Enterprise wide ceded reinsurance needs.

  • Monitor performance of team members while identifying gaps needed in skillsets and maintaining necessary action plans.

The experience you will bring:

  • 10+ years of life insurance, annuity and/or reinsurance experience.

  • Experience with TAI administration system preferred.

  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills and ability to work successfully with many different stakeholders.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) with ability to tailor approach to the audience.

  • Strategic, technical and analytical mindset.

  • Effective project management and multi-tasking skills.

  • Ability to lead multiple projects and meet tight deadlines with thoughtful planning and effective execution.

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$159,660.00 - $195,140.00
