What you'll be doing...

Verizon seeks a highly motivated, initiative-taking, business-oriented attorney to join the Verizon Value legal team. Specifically, this attorney will provide support to the Deputy and Associate General Counsels in Value on various legal matters and projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Verizon Consumer Group legal team that supports the provision of wireless services to Verizon's 20+ million prepaid consumers.

The candidate will provide legal advice, counsel and support on a broad range of matters of significant complexity, that could include sales and marketing, governance and corporate affairs. It may also involve support for the formation of new and different commercial models and partnerships. The role requires an attorney with excellent legal skills, exceptional judgment, strong business orientation, a high degree of emotional intelligence and a focus on solutions and accountability. The ideal candidate will have broad experience with a background in general corporate matters, litigation, government regulation, government relations and other legal areas.

The candidate must be able to actively contribute to business strategy discussions in a fast-paced environment. The candidate needs to be comfortable recommending decisions in "gray" areas, with the ability to help senior leadership navigate to business objectives while meeting legal requirements. The successful candidate will help to implement innovative strategies within a competitive wireless environment with a strong commitment to integrity and risk mitigation.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic guidance to manage and calibrate holistic risks and opportunities.

  • Supporting all Value Legal areas including marketing, sales and operations, state and federal government regulation, customer experience, digital marketing, customer service and general company operations.

  • Ensuring compliance with existing policies, federal and state laws and regulations, as well as Verizon's Credo and associated policies. Assisting in formulation of solutions to any identified problem areas to ensure compliance, minimize company risk and promote a positive customer experience.

  • Interfacing with, managing and coordinating the activities of Verizon Legal Department subject matter expert attorneys who are available to consult on tax, distribution, employment matters, IP, regulation, antitrust, litigation, privacy, government relations and other areas of legal expertise.

  • Connecting with diverse stakeholders at all levels of the business, the ability to build strong relationships and advocate for Verizon Value's business positions.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Active bar membership in at least one state and needed licenses.

  • Practice experience within a law firm.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Prior telecommunications or technology experience.

  • Experience supporting advertising law, federal and state consumer protection laws and/or regulations and general consumer protection issues.

  • Detail oriented and a self-starter with the ability to provide proactive, accurate and effective legal support, to work on multiple projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, often unpredictable environment with competing priorities and with minimal
supervision. Highly developed analytical reasoning skills, report analysis and keen attention to detail and processes.

  • Excellent communication and writing skills.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics to senior management.

  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every "even better" qualification listed above.
