Job Description

Postdoctoral Fellow - Joseph Lynch Lab

The Dr. Joseph Lynch's lab has an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow interested in plant metabolism. Our goal is to better understand shikimate metabolism in plants. Alongside the University of Missouri's excellent research infrastructure to support these lines of investigation, the lab is physically located at the MU Bond Life Sciences Center and focuses research on aromatic amino acid metabolism in plants. This position will be responsible for performing various duties necessary to further research on multiple grants.

Primary responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to enhance the lab's ability to support overall project goals. They will design and execute experiments related to the study plant metabolism. They will record and analyze data from experiments and disseminate results through oral presentations. The candidate will prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the peer reviewed literature that pertains to overall project goals and specific tasks required of the project. They will contribute to general laboratory operations, including maintenance of equipment and care of plants and assist in training and mentoring of junior lab members. The successful candidate should be highly motivated and is expected to work collaboratively within a diverse team.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Plant Biochemistry, Metabolism, or related discipline by start of appointment. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications in the life sciences.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

  • Knowledge and laboratory experience in general molecular biology techniques
  • Proficiency in one or more the following areas: in vitro enzyme characterization, plant transformation, metabolite analysis.
  • Good scientific communication skills, both written and oral
  • Demonstrated self-motivation
  • Ability to get along with others in a group setting
  • Demonstrate durable skills such as leadership, character, collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, metacognition, mindfulness, growth mindset, fortitude, customer service, integrity, and a commitment to the university values
  • Available for reliable and consistent onsite work
