Phlebotomist Lexington, KY

Full Time, 2nd Shift

Description:

  • Understands pertinent Laboratory Information System functions and performs downtime procedures effectively
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served by the laboratory
  • Follows all required laboratory safety, infection control policies and chemical hygiene plan according to OSHA and regulatory requirements
  • Evaluates each procedure performed and chooses appropriate investigative techniques as indicated
  • Assesses job functions and takes appropriate action when problems are detected
  • Handles troubleshooting professionally and communicates with coworkers and customers when delays occur
  • Identifies patients and specimens correctly from beginning of process to release of results
  • Accessions specimens into the LIS, accurately recording pertinent data to be used by the physician in the interpretation of tests results
  • Documents all information in an accurate, neat and legible manner and maintains minimum errors
  • Collects blood samples by appropriate method on premature babies to geriatric patients utilizing prescribed safety and infection control procedures to protect the patient and the phlebotomist.
  • Explains collection procedures and provides general testing information as needed to facilitate patient understanding and reduce patient anxiety. Calms and reassures patients who are anxious or apprehensive about having blood drawn
  • Assists with additional departmental tasks as needed or assigned
  • Works with a positive attitude and maintains accountability for personal actions.

Requirements:

  • High School/GED
