Responsibilities

The Supervisor of the Emergency Department is a Registered Nurse who assumes 24-hour administrative responsibility for the supervision of designated Emergency Department functions and patients.

The Supervisor will be responsible for:

    Orienting new hires to the department, to include: Training in Epic on the triage process, use of the Trauma Narrator, Stroke Narrator, STEMI Narrator, Code Narrator, and Sedation Narrator, Facilitating access to the Omnicell through Pharmacy, Training on usage of the Glucometer and facilitating access of such through the lab, Training for the various equipment used in the ED, such as the Level 1 Rapid Infuser, Hypothermia Unit, Bair Hugger, Mindray Monitors, Zoll Defibrillators, etc.
  • Assisting with orienting new charge nurses and educating them on how to properly complete a Memorandum of Transfer for patients being transferred, per EMTALA guidelines.
  • Providing ongoing education for staff to reduce the contamination rate of Blood Cultures with proper collection procedures; restraint use and documentation; and charting in Epic.
  • Keeping up with annual competencies and certifications of the staff and facilitate classes with the education department for certifications that are expiring (ie: TNCC) or certifications that are desired from outside entities.
  • Ordering supplies for the department, including office supplies, equipment, medical supplies (ie: cardiac leads, blood pressure cords), and training staff to keep an accurate count in the Omnicell.
  • Ordering supplies for the EMS room.
  • Maintaining schedules for Screeners. Monthly chart audits and performance improvement documentation with staff.


Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Must have a current and valid state license as a Registered Nurse.

2. BLS (AHA or ARC) upon hire and maintain current.

3. ACLS (AHA or ARC) upon hire and maintain current

4. PALS (AHA or ARC) upon hire and maintain current

5. A minimum of two years supervisory experience preferred

6. Minimum of three years of continuous clinical experience in a clinical/acute care setting.
