Job Description

KOMU-TV, a full-powered NBC and CW affiliate proudly owned by the University of Missouri, seeks an individual to serve as the business manager of the department, serving the needs of KOMU 8's News, Promotion and Sales Departments.

This position is responsible for managing the business-related functions for KOMU-TV, including but not limited to budget management, accounting, and human resource functions in coordination with the Division of Operations and other MU/UM offices. The focus is to provide timely, accurate, effective, and efficient financial information to KOMU management/administrative staff and division leadership, to support the establishment and implementation of effective systems that build the foundation for successful operations, and to recommend sound business practices and action. This position provides direct services and support to staff and students within the department; specifically, it ensures the effective use of resources (fiscal, capital and human) in helping the departments contribute to overall success.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage all business and fiscal operations including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and general ledger for KOMU and CW stations.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of annual budget and quarterly financial forecasts and variance reports.
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensure proper internal controls over cash receipts, accounts receivables, accounts payable and all financial transactions.
  • Work closely with General Manager and Department Heads to manage operating budgets.
  • Prepare monthly accruals and reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly.
  • Prepare complex financial analysis related to station operations as requested by General Manager.
  • Oversee payroll and timekeeping for 200 staff and student employees.
  • Oversee monthly and annual sales commission payments for 6-8 sales staff; support contract development for various professional staff.
  • Administratively supervise 1.5 - 2.0 employees including preparing appraisals and performance management.
Shift

Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Additional hours may be required on occasion to attend community functions on behalf of KOMU.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Strong numerical proficiency, organization, good problem-solving skills, excellent leadership skills, and attention to detail is important.

Proficient knowledge of excel preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $60,000 - $90,000 per year

Grade: GGS-011
