Job Summary

Veritex Community Bank is seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer III to lead and enhance our cloud infrastructure, focusing on Microsoft Azure, Office 365, and other cloud platforms. As a senior-level cloud engineer, you will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and securing the bank's cloud architecture while ensuring high availability, scalability, and compliance with industry standards. This role requires advanced knowledge of Azure networking, hybrid cloud strategies, security best practices, automation, and cloud governance, supporting both enterprise applications and financial services platforms. You will serve as a technical leader, providing guidance to junior engineers and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive cloud adoption and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Architecture, API Management & Infrastructure



  • Design and manage scalable, secure, and resilient cloud architectures with a focus on Azure hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
  • Oversee the deployment and maintenance of Azure networking (VNETs, NSGs, ExpressRoute, VPN, Peering, Azure Firewall) and cloud security policies, while managing Azure API Management (APIM) and ensuring proper API gateway configurations.
  • Drive automation initiatives for cloud provisioning, configuration management, and monitoring using PowerShell, Terraform, and ARM templates, integrating secure API gateways and improving access control measures.
  • Implement disaster recovery (DR) and high availability (HA) strategies, ensuring business continuity for mission-critical applications.
  • Optimize cloud resource utilization and cost management strategies, ensuring efficient cloud spend.


Security, Compliance, & Governance



  • Lead cloud security best practices, including Zero Trust Architecture, IAM policies, and Privileged Access Management (PAM) using industry-leading solutions, ensuring secure API access and integration with authentication standards such as OAuth, OpenID, and API key management.
  • Ensure compliance with SOC, SOX, GLBA, NIST 800-53, CIS Benchmarks, and financial industry regulations.
  • Develop and enforce cloud governance policies, including RBAC, logging, and auditing of cloud activities.
  • Perform cloud security risk assessments, vulnerability scanning, and incident response coordination, while utilizing monitoring and logging tools to track API health and security-related events.


Automation, CI/CD, & DevOps Integration



  • Architect and implement CI/CD pipelines for cloud-based applications, ensuring efficient software delivery.
  • Integrate cloud operations with ServiceNow workflows, automating change management and access controls.
  • Enhance infrastructure-as-code (IaC) deployment strategies with tools such as Terraform, Bicep, and Ansible.
  • Develop automation scripts to improve cloud operations, security baselines, and patch management, leveraging Azure Key Vault for secure secrets management.


Hybrid Cloud & On-Premises Integration



  • Manage hybrid Active Directory and Azure AD integrations, ensuring seamless identity synchronization and authentication.
  • Oversee the migration of on-premise workloads to cloud platforms, including storage, database services, and application hosting.
  • Lead the implementation of cloud-native security controls to protect financial applications and banking infrastructure.


Collaboration & Technical Leadership



  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers across cloud, network, security, and infrastructure teams, while collaborating cross-functionally to design and implement cloud solutions that align with business objectives.
  • Evaluate emerging cloud technologies and provide recommendations for strategic cloud adoption.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for Azure infrastructure and cloud security, assisting teams with complex cloud deployments.



Qualifications & Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of IT experience, with 7+ years of hands-on cloud engineering experience in Azure and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Strong expertise in Azure networking, security, and identity management, including ExpressRoute, VPN, NSGs, PIM, and RBAC.
  • Hands-on experience with automation and infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform, Bicep, and ARM templates.
  • Advanced scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, or similar languages for cloud automation.
  • Experience integrating cloud infrastructure with ServiceNow for access controls, change management, and incident response.
  • Deep understanding of financial industry regulations (SOC, SOX, GLBA, FFIEC) and how they apply to cloud security.
  • Experience with Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions such as CyberArk for securing cloud environments.
  • Expertise in hybrid cloud migration strategies and on-premise-to-cloud workload transformation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for complex cloud environments.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.



Preferred Certifications (Not Required, but Highly Desirable)



  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate (AZ-500)
  • Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Terraform Associate Certification
  • AWS/Azure Hybrid Cloud Certifications

Additional Information:

This job is a hybrid position with a requirement to work a minimum of 3 to 4 days in-office per week. The remainder of the time can be worked remotely. Candidates must be willing to work flexible hours and respond to after-hours emergency situations as needed.
