The staff and students in the Office of Disability Resources and Services envision an educational environment that is inclusive and embodies the equality of opportunity. We are dedicated to the full participation of students with disabilities in the university environment. As such, we work with students, faculty and staff to coordinate accommodations, refer to on-campus and off-campus resources, assist with advocacy, and address any attitudinal and/or architectural barriers that might impede participation in curricular and/or co-curricular activities.

The Director of Disability Resources and Services will provide senior leadership and management for all aspects of disability-related operations for CU Denver. The Director shall work to ensure that students with disabilities have full access to all the learning opportunities and full programmatic access to all activities and events offered by the university.

What you will do:

Program Management:

• Oversee the coordination of disability-related accommodations and services to ensure that all aspects of the students' university experience are accessible, equitable, and inclusive of individuals with disabilities.

Leadership:

• 
  

  Articulate and implement department vision, mission and values.

  
  
• 
  

  Design and implement training for Faculty and Staff who serve students.

  
  
• 
  

  Determine departmental priorities, manage multiple projects/tasks.

  
  
• 
  

  Participate in disability-related state and national organizations.

  
  
• 
  

  Serve as a subject matter expert and consult with university-related constituents.

  
  
• 
  

  Develop and implement a collaborative planning process to develop the department's new strategic plan including measurable outcomes.

  
  
• 
  

  The Director of DRS serves on the university's CARE team

  
  

Supervision:

• 
  

  Collaboratively develop yearly performance plans for direct reports; complete final year-end job evaluation of performance-related goals.

  
  
• 
  

  Conduct monthly staff meetings for all staff.

  
  
• 
  

  Conduct weekly supervision meetings with direct reports.

  
  

Budget and Fiscal Compliance:

• 
  

  Oversee departmental budget and compliance with university fiscal policies.

  
  
• 
  

  Track expenditures monthly and project areas of excess and deficit.

  
  

Outreach and Collaboration:

• 
  

  Engage all disability staff to participate in university committees and/or task forces.

  
  
• 
  

  Develop and implement presentations for academic departments regarding both general disability-related information as well as any specific topics they request.

  
  
• Collaborate with departments and/or groups regarding access including but not limited to: Instructional Technology, Facilities, Campus Planning, academic colleges/schools, academic committees, student support service offices and residence halls.

Legal:

• 
  

  Assist staff with maintaining current legal knowledge through monthly legal journal subscription as well as access to seminars (in-person and on-line).

  
  
• Identify to university leadership, and university counsel when appropriate, regarding impact of minimal resources and/or service gaps resulting in risk to the student and/or university.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

• 
  

  Master's Degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Vocational Rehabilitation, Social Work, Psychology, Education or related field.

  
  
• 
  

  Six (6) years of related professional experience from areas that demonstrated experience that support students' emotional and physical well-being and intellectual, cultural and social development outside the context of the formal instruction program or traditional academic unit.

  
  
• Prior Professional experience should demonstrate strong, supervisory leadership and management experience, including experience with budgeting and managing fiscal resources.

Preferred Qualifications to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

• 
  

  Doctorate in education, special education, counseling, rehabilitation counseling, psychology or human services field.

  
  
• 
  

  Seven (7) cumulative years of related professional experience with independent decision-making as director, department supervisor, work leader, or staff authority

  
  
• National Certified Counselor (NBCC Credentials) AND/OR Counselor Licensure, State of Colorado, or the ability to obtain licensure in Colorado

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• 
  

  Maintain a working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, i.e. Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, along with relevant case law pertaining to disability in higher education. The types of accommodations available for students with disabilities in the postsecondary setting.

  Assertive Communication Skills, Assessment Skills, Conflict Resolution, and Mediation Skills, Interpersonal Skills, Organizational and Time Management Skills and Problem-Solving Skills.

  Ability to mediate in meetings regarding disabilities, accommodations, and grievances.

  Ability to conduct a thorough review of medical and /or psychological documentation and follow up with appropriate professionals regarding current functional limitations, while coordinating necessary accommodations with faculty, administrative and facilities staff.

  Ability to develop and present information regarding the assessment and implementation of accommodations in the postsecondary setting.

  
  
• 
  

  Demonstrated sensitivity to cultural differences.

  Demonstrated effectiveness in case management.

  Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.

  This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $90,250 - $95,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
