We're actively seeking a talented Investment Accounting Transactions Analyst I to join our team in our Newport Beach, CA, office. This role is hybrid. We believe in empowering our employees to get work done both in and out of the office.

As an Investment Accounting Analyst I, you'll move Pacific Life, and your career, forward by supporting accounting systems used by asset class teams to ensure the success of reporting of investments in management. This roll will be supporting process improvements and support our international accounting/reporting needs. You will fill a new role that sits on a team of 8 people in Investment Accounting. Your colleagues will include the Director of the Investment Accounting Solutions, fellow investment accounting professionals, Operations professionals, and Information Technology professionals.

How you'll help move us forward:

  • Provide operational day to day coverage to Credit analysists and Portfolio Managers trading fixed income securities and derivatives on behalf of the firm and its entities.

  • Interact with colleagues, custodian banks, internal departments (Accounting, Audit, Treasury, Corporate Finance) and other areas where necessary to ensure timely settlement of all cash flows associated with traded instruments.

  • Have knowledge and understanding of common fixed income and derivative products, including true private placements and bank loans.

  • Have knowledge of the corporate action process, including notices, elections and processing.

  • Work directly with front office (trade floor & credit analysts) to handle issues and inquiries and to obtain elections on corporate actions.

  • Interact with all necessary external and internal counterparts' colleagues to ensure that all necessary information has been communicated, and all other trade details are coordinated so that agreed upon calculations, settlements and/or cash movements take place on time.

  • Further develop a detailed knowledge across Operations and use this to challenge and question existing roles and procedures to help define the future state of operations in order to support a growing and complex business.

  • Clearance, Settlement and Trading: Clearance, settlement, and investigations, and international and domestic securities transactions trade execution and processing. May include order processing and affirming settlement instructions input for timely processing.

  • Core: Reconciliation, investment metric and service provider reporting, support of new product/fund launches, account/fund transitions/new securities setup.

  • Corporate Actions: Processing, balancing, and reconciliation of positions related to mergers, conversions, and redemptions. Derivatives: Profit and loss reporting, price verification, trader support, and settlement and confirmation.

  • Middle Office: Complex and non-traditional products that may involve non-standard trade processing, clearance, and settlement and requiring special expertise for problem solving.

  • Portfolio Implementation/Cloning: Ensuring proper trading and balancing of wrap accounts and/or separately managed institutional accounts. Manages accounts in compliance with model portfolios from portfolio managers, performs account re-balancing (with asset allocation staff and portfolio managers).

  • Pricing and Valuation: Specializes in the daily and monthly pricing of all securities supporting the various investment funds. Provides pricing and valuation reports to portfolio managers, and may be responsible for maintaining the portfolio database, and the validation of the fund holdings.

The experience you bring:

  • Knowledge of the following Fixed Income and derivative products traded and how they work, including bonds, equities, money markets, CMOs (CMBS & RMBS), mortgages, private placements, term loans, working capital finance notes, corporate actions, swaps and options.

  • A working knowledge of how each security traded by PL and its Entities works, in particular the risks and potential costs to errors, cash flows, calculations, failing trades and the impact to Pacific Life of operating errors

  • The ability to thoroughly understand the front to back flow of several desks to include trade capture, trade confirmation, corporate actions, trade and position reconciliations

What makes you stand out:

  • 1-3 years fixed income experience working in Investment operations/middle office role in asset management, Hedge Fund, or investment banking

  • College degree in finance, accounting, or similar discipline, is preferred.

  • Thorough understanding of Investment Operations, new concepts and regulations and technology being used, including trading workflows and typical systems involved

  • Some familiarity/knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory (STAT) relating to securities investments

  • Strong aptitude for numbers and ability to understand abstract concepts and recognize patterns

  • Creative thinker and problem solver

  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively communicate verbally and in writing

  • Must be self-initiated, strong planner and organizer

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$35.18 - $43.00
