Job Summary
SMSI is hiring multiple Structural Design Engineers to support a large project based out of Greenville, South Carolina and Houston, Texas. The principal or senior design engineers will plan, organize, and coordinate structural engineering and multi-disciplined teams/design projects while engaged in the planning, design, and construction phases of engineering projects. These positions require travel, with mobility of greater than 25% to client sites in Aiken, SC (Savannah River Site), and Houston, Texas. The possibility to work REMOTELY is available. These are lead positions on assigned projects performing oversight to a specific area and responsible for technical accuracy in project execution in the project phases.
Responsibilities:


  • Plan, organize, and coordinate structural engineering and multi-disciplined team/design projects while engaged in the planning, design, and construction phases of engineering projects.
  • Prepare and review of calculations, drawings, and specifications relating to seismic and wind analyses, foundation design, structural framing analyses and design, and bracing analyses and design.
  • Experience in renovating/modifying existing facilities is preferred.


Required Skills


  • Familiarity with computer aided drafting applications is required.
  • Must have the skills and experience to perform calculations for foundations, concrete, and steel structures in accordance with ASCE and IBC.
  • Must have knowledge to utilize the structural design software -STAAD, STAAD Pro and RISA 3D and Mathcad.
  • Must have knowledge and experience applying wind and seismic loading on structures.
  • The candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Q clearance is required.


  • Must have a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in design, estimating, specification preparation, construction document preparation, and related phases of engineering.


  • Professional Engineer License preferred but not required.
  • Experience working in nuclear industry and working knowledge of Federal (including Department of Energy Orders), State, Local codes and standards applicable to structural engineering design is preferred.
  • This position requires travel, with mobility of greater than 25% to client sites in South Carolina (Savannah River Site). Occasionally, trips to client office in Houston may also be required.



Education Requirements


  • Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering with a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in design, estimating, specification preparation, construction document preparation, and related phases of engineering.
