Overview

APPOINTMENT TYPE: Temporary (Temp)

LOCATION: Oak Ridge, TN or Hybrid

SALARY RANGE: $17.75 - $21.05 per hour

PURPOSE:

The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) Intern will assist with the day-to-day DEIA programs and activities, which includes assisting the Director with programs, reports, data collection, and coordinating of activities and events. Provide administrative support for committees, groups and special assignments to support the Office of DEIA.



Responsibilities

Diversity Equity Inclusion and Accessibility

    Assists, as required, with administrative functions for programs and activities, including training and special programs to enhance employees' awareness of a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Supports the Diversity Council (DC), as directed by the Director, DEIA.
  • Collaborates with Communications and Marketing for supportive materials required to support the Diversity Council and the DEIA Consortium.
  • Involves oneself in internal and external projects relating to DEI&A initiatives as needed.
  • Comfortably engages across diverse groups, which generally involves communicating, following up, and providing resources, as instructed, in a timely manner, to meet project deadlines.
  • Assists as assigned, with research and industry norms, regarding DEIA initiatives in the workplace.
  • Assists as assigned to gather data for reports.

Collaboration and Support

  • Supports the Diversity Council.
  • Joins other organizational units to coordinate and participate in Oak Ride Associated Universities (ORAU) hosted events to establish working relationships with employees and customers while promoting positive interactions and advancing the one team engagement concept.

Technical and Administrative Support

  • Provides support for the Newsletter and presentations.
  • Maintains files and provides administrative support for electronic and hard copy files.
  • Assists with policy review and collection of files, information, and other requirements for legal requests.
  • Assists with office operation requirements for DEI&A.


Qualifications

High school diploma and 1-2 years of job-related experience, or an associate degree and 0 years of job-related experience required. An equivalent combination of education and experience requiring similar knowledge, skills, abilities, and performing duties as described may be substituted for the minimum requirements.

  • Ability to provide support for research and analyzing collected data to deliver in presentation format.
  • Demonstrated exceptional communication both oral and written.
  • Ability to work with and relate to diverse individuals at all levels within and outside of the organization.
  • Ability to follow prescribed procedures in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations governing Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Office of Federal Contract Compliance Program (OFCCP).
  • General knowledge in the approach to collecting and assessing information.
  • Must be able to disassociate personal beliefs and make decisions based on facts and data.

*The candidate's starting salary will be determined upon hire and ORAU will use salary survey data, internal comparators, and the candidate's qualifications to determine salary.
