About the Internship
nLIGHT is currently recruiting for an Engineering student to intern with us for the summer of 2025. This internship is a 10 to 12-week program that offers challenging assignments, projects, and career development opportunities to enhance your professional growth. You will also earn a competitive wage based on your discipline and academic class status.
About the Team
As the Advanced Technology Group, we are always looking for new ideas and developments in the world of lasers. Our team consists of Mechanical Engineers, Device Physicists, Optical Engineers, and Laser Packaging Engineers working on cutting edge science and engineering.
What You Can Expect to Learn
  • Fundamentals of photonic designs and fabrication
  • Hands-on experience with testing and characterization of laser diodes
  • Data collection, analysis, and review with professional engineers
  • Interact in a dynamic environment learning new things every day
What You Can Expect to Do
  • Assist Advanced Technology (AT) team in development of next generation single mode and broad area laser diodes
  • Assist AT team with testing and data acquisition of laser diodes
  • Assist AT team with design development
  • Finite Element Modeling using LaserMOD and Lumerical, time permitting
Who You Are
  • You bring a fundamental knowledge of electronics and photonics
  • You take initiative and have an eagerness to learn
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • LaserMOD, Lumerical and Matlab software experience is a plus
Minimum Job Requirements
  • You must be working toward a degree inPhysics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field
  • You must have completed (at a minimum) your sophomore year in college
  • You must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above to be considered

Compensation and Benefits
Pay depends on level of education completed:
  • $26 - 28/hr
Benefits
  • Medical, Dental and Vision Benefits including Prescription and Orthodontia with employee-paid premiums as low as $40.00 per pay period
