Essential Job Duties
Coordinate efforts with NC Sea Grant and the Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association ( SECOORA) on continued engagement with NC coastal communities and expanding a network of regional water level sensors. Job responsibilities will include advising SECOORA's product development team on technology and format enhancements needed in NC, facilitating community discussions in NC on best sensor placement, and identifying station stewards who can perform periodic checks of sensors to identify and address technical issues. Duties will also include joining other South Atlantic Sea Grant programs in the regional water level network virtual meetings and the Integrated Ocean Observing System ( IOOS)'s national Engagement Community of Practice.

Requirements and Preferences


Work Schedule Flexible; Work is anticipated to fall within normal operating hours (8 am - 5 pm, M-F) with some flexible evening and weekend duties.

Coordinate/collaborate with Sea Grant staff in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida
Minimum Experience/Education
Undergraduate degree, with full time enrollment in a graduate university or college in North Carolina.
Department Required Skills

  • Enrolled in a graduate degree program in environmental studies, marine science, biology, political science, public policy, communications or closely related field.
  • Strong writing and critical thinking skills

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Demonstrated interest in community engagement, public public/environmental policy, environmental science, oceanography and/or a related field.
