Job Summary
SMSI is hiring a full-time Procurement Engineer for our Oak Ridge, TN office in support of the EPC of Small Modular Reactors and other U.S Government customers. The Procurement Engineer will be responsible for evaluating and procuring items and services for structures, systems, and components. This role will require travel up to 25%. Travel could be to customer offices or to supplier shops to support the project activities.
Job Responsibilities



  • Aide in support and evaluation of suppliers for equipment.
  • Assist the development of a Material Assignment Schedule to identify and properly package all commodities into procurement packages in support of project execution to meet project schedules.
  • Support Automation and Project Digital Delivery with crosswalk tasks between each piece of tagged equipment and procurement packages as well as other corresponding documentation and databases.
  • Develop and issue procurement packages that include Statements of Work, Subcontractor Submittal requirements, Technical and Quality Assurance requirements, acceptance testing and receipt inspection requirements, Security related requirements and Environmental, Safety and Health requirements.
  • Conduct Pre-Proposal Meetings with suppliers.
  • Support Technical Change Administration and Deviation Document Review of assigned procurement packages.
  • Support Post Award submittal reviews.



Required Skills/Abilities



  • 5+ years of practical work experience.
  • Assist in providing technical support to the equipment procurement process.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills across all levels and with both internal and external customers.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and networking.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks requiring varying resources.
  • Demonstrative Experience as a Procurement Engineer for commercial Nuclear Power Plants.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability in the implementation of ISO 9001 and/or ASME NQA-1 requirements with emphasis on design, procurement, control of items, material traceability, records, shipping/handling, test and inspection control, and special processes.
  • Knowledge of Engineering principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices. Advance knowledge of project and process engineering practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in preparing, reviewing, and approving of technical documents that support procurement actions, including installation instructions, verifications, acceptance, and testing documents.
  • Proactively anticipating, identifying, and addressing procurement issues prior to receipt inspection to ensure Project schedules are met and frequently interfacing with Suppliers and expediting activities when necessary.
  • Must be a US citizen with a valid US Passport for International Travel.



Desired Skills



  • Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with schedules and cost control systems.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and approving of technical documents that support procurement actions, including installation instructions, verifications, acceptance, and testing documents.
  • Experience performing commercial grade item dedication and environmental equipment qualification to ensure that structures, systems, and components meet both technical and quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of Engineering and Construction techniques, applications of Engineering and Construction methods.



Educational Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
