Requisition Id14068 Overview: We are seeking a Superconducting Magnet R&D Associate who will focus on developing and leading superconducting magnet testing and development as it pertains to fusion and other high field enabled environments and applications. The successful candidate will be working with a new University of Tennessee-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute (UTORII) project developing materials for extreme applications with a focus on fusion environments. This work will be focused on developing new capabilities for testing materials response to coupled extreme environment where high temperature, irradiation, plasma erosion, magnetic field, or combinations thereof are present. As part of UT-ORII, the candidate will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with a team of University of Tennessee faculty, postdoctoral associates, and students in the Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Physics Departments, as well as scientists at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. This position resides in the Fusion Technology Group of the Fusion Nuclear Science and Technology Section of the Fusion Energy Directorate (FED) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
