Overview

The Veteran Affairs Education Specialist is responsible for key activities in support of the Veterans Affairs (VA) students at Universal Technical Institute. This position is responsible for partnering with campus and centralized members to ensure VA students have the support they need to succeed at UTI and assist them in maximizing the administration of their Veteran benefits.

This role demands exceptional attention to detail, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and strong collaboration skills to ensure the timely and accurate certification of VA Education Benefits. The Specialist will play a critical part in maintaining compliance with VA regulations while fostering effective relationships across departments to support the success of our veteran students.

* Hybrid work schedule: 4 days working remotely and 1 day in-office at the Avondale campus

Responsibilities

    VA Benefits Certification: Process and certify VA education benefits by accurately calculating tuition, fees, and awards in compliance with VA regulations and UTI policies.
  • Student Certification Updates: Monitor and update student certifications based on program changes, double courses, re-enrollments, or withdrawals to ensure compliance and accurate reporting.
  • Collaboration and Issue Resolution: Collaborate with campus teams, centralized departments, and the VA Processing Center to resolve payment, certification disputes, and other account issues.
  • Account Reconciliation: Reconcile student accounts upon graduation or withdrawal, including processing returns of VA payments as necessary.
  • Yellow Ribbon Administration: Administer the Yellow Ribbon tuition reduction and ensure VA benefit estimates are properly calculated and communicated.
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Education / Experience

Required

  • High School Diploma is required
  • Minimum three - five (3-5) years of experience in customer service required

Highly Preferred

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in Financial Aid or a closely related field preferred
  • Experience with VA processes preferred

  • Attention to Detail and Organization: Exceptional ability to maintain accuracy in processing and reconciling complex data while staying organized.
  • Time Management and Prioritization: Strong ability to manage workloads and meet tight deadlines efficiently.
  • Analytical and Mathematical Proficiency: Capability to perform detailed calculations, analyze data, and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Effective Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with teams and resolving issues.
  • Proficiency with Technology: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and data entry with high accuracy.
