Position Purpose |
Under supervision from the Residential Operations Custodial Supervisor, performs a wide variety of cleaning and unskilled building maintenance tasks which include heavy lifting activities inside and outside the College's student residential facilities. These facilities include residence halls, affinity houses, and college-owned Greek houses. Maintains cleaning and bathroom supply inventories. Notes machine and furniture repair and replacement needs and completes appropriate work request forms and damage reports. Implements recycling procedures. Communicates effectively with students, answering questions about relevant Residential Operations policies and procedures. |

- Ability to operate and maintain various machines and hand operated tools, such as vacuum cleaners and floor waxers.
- Knowledge of safe use of a variety of chemical substances used for cleaning purposes.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, including lifting and carrying heavy objects.
- Ability to work from ladders to clean light fixtures (typically, an 8-foot step ladder).
- Ability to work in residential setting and to interact successfully on a daily basis with a culturally diverse student population.
- Must be willing to work mandatory overtime, as required.
- Strong commitment to a diverse working environment and to serving the needs of a large and diverse community.

Key Accountabilities
Description |
- On a daily basis: cleans and mops all common area floors, stairways, public restrooms, kitchen and snack-preparation areas, laundry rooms, study rooms, and lounges; vacuums carpeted hallways and common areas; washes windows in common areas; completes damage reports for common areas.
- On a daily basis and following designated schedules: implements FO&M recycling procedures; picks up, bags, and removes all trash inside building as well as loose trash around building perimeters to designated areas.
- On a weekly basis: applies appropriate finishes to all common areas floors and stairways; cleans all private bathrooms; completes common area furniture inventory form, noting all missing or damaged furniture.
- On a semiannual basis: washes windows in student rooms.
- On an annual basis: removes and cleans hall light covers.
- On an as needed basis: thoroughly cleans student rooms as vacancies occur.
- On an as needed basis: changes light bulbs, cleans light fixtures, using ladders when necessary.
- On an as needed basis: stocks all bathrooms with supplies and orders bathroom supplies and cleaning materials; checks all room smoke detectors and spring loaded door hinges for proper operation; removes snow from building entrances at least three feet from all entrances at start of and throughout workday; answers students' questions about ORL procedures and policies and refers students to appropriate ORL offices when necessary; assumes responsibility for building trunk rooms, including cleaning rooms and arranging items, enforcing trunk room policy and, upon request, providing student access, completes damage reports for student rooms.
