About the Job

The position is for a minimum of six months with the possibility of continuation, based on performance and availability of funds.

This position will assist with research projects that are focused on sustainable management of swine and poultry.

Responsibilities

35% Conduct experiments and analyses to advance sustainable livestock nutrition, integrating innovative practices that optimize production efficiency, animal health, and environmental stewardship.

35% Conduct research that contributes to the principles of One Health, emphasizing the interconnectedness of animal health, human health, and environmental health.

20% Assist with comprehensive life-cycle assessments (LCA) to evaluate the environmental impacts of both swine and poultry production systems, identifying key areas for reducing carbon and resource footprints.

10% Provide guidance and support to graduate and undergraduate students within the Livestock Sustainability group

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
*Bachelor's degree in Livestock Sustainability or related areas (e.g., agriculture engineering, ecology, animal science, veterinary medicine) or an equivalent combination of education and relevant research experience to equal four years
*Excellent written and communication skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
*Demonstrated ability to multitask and to work independently
*Demonstrated ability to communicate science to a wide audience.

Preferred Qualifications:
*Experience in Systems Thinking and Dynamics Models, Data Analysis and Visualization
*Strong ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams, with a commitment to advancing sustainability in animal agriculture.

The Department of Animal Science is recognized nationally and internationally for its excellent research, teaching, and extension programs in animal agriculture and animal biology. The College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) is composed of 13 academic departments, 10 research and outreach centers across Minnesota, plus the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, the Bell Museum, and dozens of interdisciplinary centers that span the college, the university, and the globe. CFANS offers thirteen undergraduate majors and thirteen graduate majors, three pre-major/pre-professional programs and 23 minors for undergraduate students. Undergraduate enrollment in the college is about 2000 students. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range:$24.00 - $26.55; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
