Position Summary
This position needs an expert level of technical knowledge and skills for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the UGA campus boiler systems. These building boiler systems are various in type, size, and manufacturer involving the individual in this position to have the needed mechanical and technical skills needed for monitoring, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing these boilers and their associated equipment. This position is responsible for keeping preventative and corrective maintenance logs, part inventory, and works closely with the State inspector to assure we are staying in compliance. This position will be expected to work independently to complete tasks within this competency and help train others on staff.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
This position has expert level technical knowledge and mechanical skills in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of building boiler systems and their associated equipment. Be able to independently diagnose and solve a wide range of operational issues that arise from the mechanical components and controls of boiler systems including the following:

  • Ability to identify and repair components of a Gas System Boiler
  • Ability to identify and repair components of a Steam System Boiler
  • Ability to identify and repair components of Heat Exchanger Systems
  • Skilled in tube replacement and blow downs
  • Understanding of parallel positioning systems and ALC based programs
  • Knowledge to troubleshoot and install boiler sensors, boards and relays
  • Knowledge for assisting with commissioning of new building boiler systems
  • Knowledge of pressure controls and experience with flame relays, low waters, air switches, and aqua stats
  • Able to reading and interpret mechanical plans and wiring diagrams


Physical Demands

  • Lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, and crawling throughout an 8-hour work shift with occasional overhead work and use of a ladder.
  • Lift up to 75lbs and work under adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.)

Install, maintain, and repair the mechanical components of the building boiler system such as circulator pumps,condensers, burners, heat exchangers, tubes, combustion chamber and exhaust stack.
