Pharmacist 2 Per Diem, Pediatrics

The Staff 2 Per Diem Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for directing and maintaining drug therapy across the continuum of care, providing comprehensive service-based monitoring on select services, as well as focused monitoring in the areas of support care/symptom management, antimicrobial therapy, anticoagulation, and parenteral nutrition. The Staff 2 Per Diem Clinical Pharmacist is an integral member of the healthcare team, with responsibilities that include drug therapy monitoring, facilitation of drug distribution, dissemination of drug information, precepting of students and residents, participation in clinical research, and participation in departmental and institutional committees, taskforces, and workgroups, all while fostering excellent interdepartmental relationships and ensuring quality and cost-effective pharmaceutical care.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

• California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
• Completion of PGY1 Acute Care Residency, or equivalent experience in an academic medical center setting.
• Completion of PGY2 in area of position emphasis (e.g., Critical Care, Cardiology, Oncology, Pediatrics, Pain and Palliative Care, Nutrition Support), or equivalent experience consisting of PGY1 plus a minimum of 3 years of similar practice (> 70%) in an academic medical center setting.
• One year of inpatient pharmacy practice experience
• Educational experience and ability to work with and direct health care professionals
• Educational experience and ability to work with, direct and evaluate pharmacy residents and students
• Complete working knowledge of, and skill and experience to apply practices, principles, and techniques of patient care related to the area of expertise
• Thorough understanding of and competency in aseptic technique, and of regulations and safety requirements governing the safe handling, preparation, and administration of hazardous drugs
• Ability to review and assess appropriateness/safety of medication orders and regimens with varying levels of complexity
• Demonstrated mathematical skills sufficient to accurately perform pharmacy calculations

Preferred Qualifications

• American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent advanced life support certification
• At least 3 years of inpatient pharmacy practice experience
• Academic medical center (AMC) experience

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.

The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.
