Job Summary :

Requirements include working one twelve-hour day shift during the week and providing standby coverage from Saturday 7:00 a.m. through Monday 7:00 a.m. Standby status is paid at a premium rate, associate is only required to be in house on weekends if there are cases. No weeknight call required.

The purpose of this position is to create a consistent weekend team to cover any needs on the weekend and alleviate the need for a rotating call schedule.

Job Description

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

  • The Director will determine the number and skill level of Weekend Standby positions offered
  • Individuals must sign a 6-month commitment to the Weekend Standby status, although they will remain as an at-will employee. At the end of the 6-month period an associate may request a different work option should one be available or accept an additional 6-month period of Weekend Standby if there is a departmental need
  • Weekend Standby shifts are from Saturday at 7am until Monday at 7am.
  • In addition to the Weekend Standby shift, Weekend Standby associates will be required to work a 12-hour shift Tuesday-Friday to fit departmental needs. Failure to work weekday shift will subject the individual to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
  • Weekend Standby associates will be allowed 1 weekend per 3-month period of PTO. PTO requests will need to be submitted per policy for approval
  • Weekend Standby associates may request but are not required to take 1 week of available PTO per 3-month period provided they have enough accrued PTO. For requests longer than one week, Director approval is required. Weekend Standby staff will submit PTO requests for approval per the PTO Policy based on 12-hour shifts
  • Weekend Standby associates must notify department leadership of illness prior to their STANDBY shift following the departmental call-in procedures. If the associate is called in and is unable to come in, the associate will face disciplinary action up to and including termination. The associate will be required to use PTO for any unscheduled missed shifts as per the PTO policy.
  • Weekend Standby associate will be 0.9 FTE and considered full-time with full-time benefits.

PAYMENT TERMS:

  • Weekend Standby shifts are Saturday 7am through 7am on Monday. During these times, Weekend Standby associates will either be "waiting to be engaged" or working onsite.
  • The rate of pay for a Standby associate for Standby hours will be the minimum base rate of the pay scale for the RN and CST position, plus any shift premiums that are applicable.
  • When Weekend Standby associates are working onsite after being called in, they will be paid their base rate of pay plus any shift premiums that are applicable under the hospital's normal policies.
  • Weekend Standby associates may also be eligible for overtime pay if the hours worked onsite after being called in trigger overtime pay obligations.
  • Standby associates may be eligible for staff incentives offered for critical shifts.
  • Standby associate will not be eligible for any additional "on-call" or "call back" outside of weekend hours.
  • Additional hours worked outside of the Weekend Standby status will be paid at base rate plus any shift premiums and overtime pay that apply
  • Standby associate working holiday hours will receive holiday premium pay on all worked time during the observed holiday. Please refer to the Holiday Pay policy.
  • Refer to attendance policy for guidelines for STANDBY position. (Falls under SAIL attendance guidelines)

HOLIDAY REQUIREMENTS

  • A Weekend STANDBY associate is required to be on call one observed holiday per year following the departmental guidelines.
  • If the holiday falls during scheduled Standby hours, the associate must give 4 weeks' notice if choosing NOT to work. Use of PTO will be required for a 12-hour shift.

Associates that have agreed to the Weekend Standby Agreement will be expected to:

  • Must be able to report to the department within 45 minutes if called in
  • Not be under the influence of any drugs or alcohol that might impair their ability to perform their job if called in to work
  • Cover one holiday call per year as needed

Education and Experience Required:

1. Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing; or

2. If a graduate from a nursing school that is not accredited, a minimum of five years of acute care nursing experience is required to be considered; or an advanced degree from an accredited school;

3. Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree, (BSN), preferred or required within five years from date of hire (MSN enrollment would be accepted in place of BSN for those enrolling in an accelerated program).

4. Area specific required education may be obtained upon hire and is to be maintained, e.g. ACLS, BLS, PALS, specialty certification, etc.

Mandatory Licensure/Certifications:

Current licensure by the Indiana State Board of Nurses' Registration and Nursing Education as an active Registered Nurse.
