Responsibilities

The Maintenance Support Mechanic plays a crucial role in maintaining fixed equipment within the plant. Responsibilities include:



  • Equipment Maintenance and Repair:

    • Dismantle, repair, adjust, overhaul, install, assemble, fabricate, and service mechanical and process piping equipment.
    • Determine replacement parts needed, develop repair strategies, and ensure new parts meet specifications.
    • Support rotating equipment and assist with troubleshooting projects led by General Maintenance Mechanics.
    • Perform specialized machinist and assembly repairs when necessary.
    • Detect faulty equipment through inspection, testing, and expertise.
    • Conduct preventive maintenance to avoid production interruptions or unsafe conditions.


  • Machinery Operation and Fabrication:

    • Operate precision tools and machinery such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders.
    • Fabricate and shape parts from metal, plastics, and composites.
    • Measure, examine, and test completed units to identify defects.
    • Monitor machine feed and speed during machining processes.


  • Technical Skills and Documentation:

    • Work from blueprints, specifications, sketches, job plans, and oral instructions.
    • Make repairs using reference materials and previous experience.
    • Utilize testing and measurement equipment effectively.
    • Maintain good working condition of tools and shop equipment.
    • Perform basic root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and document findings.


  • Computer and Data Management:

    • Use computers for accessing procedures, completing training, inputting/retrieving data, and reviewing BOMs in SAP.


  • Safety and Compliance:

    • Follow all safety, environmental, and company policies.
    • Use designated safety and personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, face shield, fire retardant coveralls, safety boots, and respirators.


  • Availability and Flexibility:

    • Be available for overtime, alternate schedules, on-call duties, and rotating shifts as required.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervision.

  • Complete apprenticeship program that includes:

    • classroom (books, hands-on labs, tests) - this portion is done primarily on the apprentice's own time
    • on-the-job training
    • on-going satisfactory performance
    • quarterly evaluations/feedback


  • Maintain current status on all procedural and safety training


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Must have a valid state motor vehicle driver's license

Minimum WorkKeys scores of:

Applied Technology(no minimum, but scores are reviewed by hiring managers)

*An Associate's degree in a related fieldortwo or more years of relatedexperienceis required.

Preferred Skills and Experience:



  • Mechanical experience in an industrial, military, construction or manual machinist/machine shop environment is preferred.
  • An Associate's degree in a program validated by Eastman is preferred.Current validated programs are Kilgore College Industrial Maintenance Technology AAS or TSTC Waco Industrial Systems Technology AAS.
  • Manual Machinist - Class A
  • Troubleshooting
  • Rotating Equipment
  • Multi-craft ( Electrical, Mechanical, Fabrication, and Machining)
  • Stable and progressive work history


Training Requirements (after reporting to work):
