Summary

The Product Manager is responsible for driving the execution of product launches, from ideation to launch, within the coffee and cold brew product lines. The role supports the Senior Manager, Product and Innovation in the stage gate and commercialization process of new products, manages the lifecycle of existing products, and addresses SKU rationalization needs. The Product Manager, in close collaboration with the Green Coffee Team, leads Stumptown's rotational Single Origin coffee program. This role leads and manages Stumptown's merchandise program, partnering with channel leads and the creative team on programming and managing inventory in our owned channels. Strong analytical skills, initiative, business savvy, an intuitive sense for the Stumptown brand and the ability to clearly communicate and collaborate cross-functionally are essential to the success of this role.

Essential Functions
  • Lead lifecycle management of the product portfolio, ensuring that all updates and transitions are seamless and that relevant information is clearly communicated to key stakeholders.

  • Partner with marketing and channel leads to ensure product and merchandise strategy aligns with annual campaigns and overall business objectives.

  • Support, and on specific projects, lead the stage gate process for new product initiatives. Own the timeline and manage the commercialization process.

  • Oversee the new item set up process, including completing new item forms and finalizing product specifications.

  • Monitor brand revenue and profitability performance through syndicated data and BI reporting tools. Share findings and recommendations quarterly with Senior Manager and cross-channel leadership.

  • Develop a deep understanding of our target consumer. Closely track competitors and industry trends. Uncover insights to inform product concepts and innovation pipeline.

  • Monthly reporting and analysis of syndicated data. Closely track category, brand and competitor performance, analyzing data to uncover actionable insights to inform product strategy.

  • Utilizing internal reporting, syndicated and market data, make product recommendations to channel leads. Includes pricing, sku assortment, sizing and special packs sizes to support seasonal campaigns.

  • Develop and lead Stumptown's strategy with the rotational Single Origin coffee program. In close collaboration with the Coffee Team, plan the annual calendar. Make recommendations for new origins, micro lots and volume forecasts.

  • Lead the cross-functional team in managing and optimizing the rotational Single Origin coffee "on/off menu" process.

  • Develop and lead the Stumptown merchandise strategy for our own channels. Work closely with cross-channel partners to create campaign offerings that reflect the Stumptown brand while meeting channel revenue and profitability targets. Set targets, track and report on performance post-campaign.

  • Support cross-channel partners with merchandise inventory tracking and timely communication. Monitor and ensure optimal inventory levels in multiple warehouse locations.

  • Manage and reconcile innovation budget monthly.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, or Marketing.

  • Prior product management in the food and beverage category in a CPG organization strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with a business P&L and general framework of a budgeting process

  • Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft D365 (or similar ERP system)

  • Experience in data analytics and syndicated data sources (Nielsen, IRI, SPINS, etc.).

  • A self-starter with the ability to lead initiatives and project teams cross-functionally, taking ownership and responsibility for actions and contributions.

  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

  • Skilled at managing complex projects and multiple timelines simultaneously.

  • Highly organized with the ability to balance attention to detail with swift execution.

  • The ability to collaborate and partner across different teams within the company.

  • A passion for specialty coffee and everything we do every day at Stumptown.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit continuously at a computer and perform work within an office environment.

  • Lift up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

  • Standing - ability to stand for long periods of time.

  • Periodic exposure manufacturing and warehouse environment.

Work Environment

  • Work takes place in office settings; this position is based at our HQ in Portland, Oregon and will spend, on average, half of their time working in the office and half of their time working from home.

  • May occasionally require travel via car and/or airline (5-10%), standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time, and occasional overnight hotel stays.

  • Ability to occasionally work outside of standard business hours on an ad-hoc basis to address urgent business needs and support retail and marketing activities on weekends and evenings.
